Has anyone else in auckland had problems following the installation of cabinets by telecom? I used to be with orcon for both phone and broadband. About three weeks ago both stopped working.

It took several phone calls before someone at orcon got back to us to tell us that there were line issues because telecom had installed a cabinet in between the exchange and our home. We were informed that orcon would install our line into this cabinet at some future point.

After five days without any phone things started working again. However a week ago I got a phone call from a chorus technician to say that they were at the cabinet and changing the line over.

Since then we have had no adsl service and no incoming phone calls. It transpires that when you ring out from our phone it is a completely different number and you can't dial that number back.

It took six phone calls to orcon for them to acknowledge this problem (generally they would just say that it would be up and running after five pm). Eventually they said they would log a fault but after a further four days of waiting nothing happened.

In anger and frustration at this appalling level of service I have changed the phone back to telecom and broadband over to maxnet in the hope that something might get done as it is over a week now. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I realize that chorus are now responsible for line maintenance but it is extremely frustrating that this is happening in the middle (mount eden) of the countrys biggest city and there seems to be no way to address the problem.

The service from orcon was very poor and I would advise others to be guarded about using them.

I assume you were on a ULL Orcon+ connection previously. Cabinetisation means this can't work because of the issues of midspan injection, so Orcon need to move you back to a Wholesale connection.

It seems that depite the cabinetisation schedules having been in place for several years, that Orcon aren't proactively moving people back to Wholesale connections before cabinetisation occurs, they're waiting for the cabinet to be installed and then trying to fix the problem.

Seeing the user has now moved to Telecom plus Maxnet, this is a moot point. Be it a warning to other users.
