thats why there is a different type of connector for the aerial , didnt you realise something was up when you had to use an adaptor to make the aerial connection ?
Yup,soon as i saw it in the manual and thought 'uh oh',but tried it anyway.
Thanks for pointing out my stupidity...i do realise it and am suitably kicking myself for not investigating the option more beforehand,but it's not really my area of expertise. Clearly i've learned my lesson and will thus probably sell the unit if all else fails.
The store you purchased the unit from should be okay if you return it quickly with all the contents of the box and original packaging. Most of the major retailers are pretty good on this sort of thing now days. The store I purchased my box from even asked me what type of aerial I had on the house, so as not to sell me the wrong box, so pretty poor that you were not asked that question to. I think the stores should ask this sort of question because most customers purchasing their first Freeview box are actually new to the technology and it can be confusing.
I have another question for you guys... When playing back a recorded program, if I press the 'next' button, it skips forward 10.00mins. Is there a way to change the time to 1/2/3/4 mins?
Well, what can I say second time this box has let me down. Went away for two days and scheduled some programs to be recorded and came home, found that the box was on but it had not recorded anything.
Went away for Xmas and thought I'd give it another go, same deal. Come back and nothing I had scheduled to record was recorded but the box was on.

I had a similar fault with my MagicTV. I had just upgraded the firmware from 3.09 dated 05 Nov 09) to the latest 3.09 dated 24 Nov 09. From that point on the Magic TV would not record any series linked programs. It would record one off, and manual recordings. It also would not record anything on Prime. It kept coming up with a message along the lines of "not enough resources availble". I forget exactly what the wording was.
I did the following and everything was fixed:
I re-flashed the firmward back to the original 3.07 version. Did a Factory Reset (Menu, System, Factory Reset). Re flashed the firmware to the latest 3.09 dated 24 Nov 09.
From that point on, everything has worked perfectly. Let me know if you need the original firmware. I can upload it somewhere if required.
I tend to keep things like the previous firmware versions, just in case the latest one does not work correctly, or introduces new errors. The original firmware is uploaded to the link below:

The one remaining issue for me which I have already discussed with MagicTV directly is the 10 minute Skip interval. I would like it to be 30 seconds or 1 minute in length, or better yet, something User selectable. Say a choice of 30 sec, 1 min, 2 min, 5 min or 10 min, which the user could select. Hopefully this can be done via a firmware update.

No worries. The sound is not an issue for me. I use a Harmony One remote control. Since buying it, it is the only remote I have had to use. That is another item I would highly recommend.

Did you upgrade to the 3.09 firmware dated 05 Nov 09 ? I upgraded to that version within a day of it being released, then after the upgrade, I noticed that the only firmware avaiable was the original 3.07 version. I assumed my problem wa that I had updated to a buggy firmware, not that I saw any problems with it, and then upgrading from there to the next 3.09 formware dated 24 Nov 09 caused the problems to begin.
Hence I rolled back to the original firmware and did the factory reset.
No resource issues here. I updated to 3.09 last week. Had not done any updates since purchase back in October.
I like having the volume control on the remote control my TV volume, but would kindly request that Magic TV look at having some form of volume level control in the menu. The audio output level from my Magic TV unit is a lot louder compared to my Sky TV decoder, DVD/VHS recorder and standard TV channels. The later 3 are all about the same level. Just get a high volume jump when I switch to the Magic TV unit.
