Just bought one these and it arrived last Friday. I have had a decent go with it and I am really impressed. Glad that I got it!

Yes I also recently upgraded from an earlier Panasonic unit & the EPG is much better plus the keyword search is great.

I've recently updated to a Panasonic DMR-HWT260GN 1TB Twin Tuner Smart PVR the same model discussed in this thread.

In most ways I prefer it over my last 3 PVRs which were Topfields.

Except though for the very annoying 2 second time lag that happens when I press the manual skip buttons on remote of 60 seconds forward or 10 seconds back. This makes skipping through commercials very cumbersome, slow and awkward. The show pauses for 2 seconds and then does the skip forward or back instead of instantly forward and back which was the case with my Topfields.  I often have to hit these buttons 4 or 5 times for each ad break so a 2 second time lag is not very practical.

I use the manual skip all the time and more than any other feature as I only watch pre recorded shows so I would love to get to the bottom of it. This is my first Panny PVR and as I say I'm mostly very happy with it.

No change when I updated firmware or powered down at wall.

I've read the 11 pages in this thread and didn't find any other similar posts.

Have I got a faulty unit or is there a fix?

any help appreciated.

cheers

The New Zealand models have the Skip button disabled.

Or at least, the model we're discussing has it disabled.

Oh ok...sorry I didn't realize this thread was only about the NZ model.

I have the Aus model which of course has the manual skip enabled. As I say its the feature I use more than any other .

Any advice for the Aus model i have or should I be on a different forum/thread?

All I can suggest is ringing Panasonic, they were pretty good at taking my call here and listening to my problems (not that any changed much, sadly, but they were helpful at least)

Otherwise I'd guess there's an Australian forum but I don't know its name

No worries. I'll try Whirlpool.

Apologies I didn't realize this was a NZ forum.

I posted on Stereonet Aus a while back but couldn't find anyone with the same model.

Basically if I can find another owner I can confirm whether this is standard or if I have a faulty model.

Surprised they have not released the next iteration of this, I got it when it first came out and it's still going fine for us.

On the NZ models, when watching a recorded FTA broadcast, when pause is activated, is there a 2 second time lag when pause or play is pressed to continue the recording or does it un-pause instantly?

My Aus unit has a 2 second time lag for un-pausing as well as the manual skip so this may be a way to work out if this is standard or whether I have a faulty unit.

My 3 Topfields were instant with no time lag delay.

using play / pause / play again of FTA recordings is pretty much instantaneous.

My wife has become disabled and TV is very important to her as she can't move (MND).

She can operate a phone as a remote but I can't get it to work with her current PVR (Samsung)

Can someone tell me if this unit has a phone app remote?

Or suggest a unit that can have a phone used as a remote.  TV or Box is fine, can't spend a lot.

Needs Dual DVB-T, good interface, phone as a remote.

Did you mean Samsung or Panasonic? There are several Panasonic remote apps listed in the Google Play Store, on the assumption it's an Android phone. Haven't personally tried any.

Problem is, NZ firmware is slightly different. The apps are all most all American.

If anyone would like to test with a phone and get back to me.

I really don't care what brand it is as long as she can use it.

It does have an app but it's not good. I don't think it turns the unit on and off, and when I tried to use it to change the channel, although it showed all the NZ channels correctly, it just crashed whenever I selected one. In all honesty, I've not used my PVR for a year or two now because the streaming video services here have become so good. Have you considered a Chromecast or an Apple TV for your wife? Both can be driven by a phone or a tablet and can stream both live and on demand content from the major NZ TV channels. Plus you can also get Netflix, Lightbox, Amazon Prime (recently launched in NZ) and many other services which will give her an almost endless amount of content to help her pass the time.
