When people say 'Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too'. Damn right! What good is cake if you can't eat it? Computers are useless. They can only give you answers. Pablo Picasso (1881 - 1973)
We have a 21" CRT tv and dvd/vcr combo also have SD sky subscription. no surround sound either :( o well such as life! (Wouldnt mind a 55" samsung LED tv finding its own way to my house!) LOL
We have an interesting setup that is in useable but interim state until we build the new house. Yamaha AV Receiver, 2 zone audio Niles Outdoor speakers Squeezebox duet Shuttle PC running squeezecenter SAMSUNG 55" LED TV HTPC running Win7 MCE Logitech Harmony touch screen remote NAS Promise 4-bay KEF Home Theatre speaker package Nintendo Wii SAMSUNG 32" LCD TV
What this allows us to do is: Watch Freeview, Sky, Recorded TV/Movies on the system Record Freeview or Sky Listen to music off the system (MP3's) or internet radio etc via the HT speakers or outdoor speakers or both Browse the internet, Display photo slideshows, Play Wii games
The future will involve: whole home audio (using Netstreams) - got a killer deal on this via receivership sale ;o) Component video matrix switcher to watch and control AV source remotely - HDMI other than local connections looks to be a pain in the a$$
I have (in the lounge) a 50" Panasonic Plasma, a Yamaha RX2400 Receiver, a cheap Freeview HD receiver, a PS3, a PS2, A Wii and an HDMI switch to tie them all together. I have some Wharfdale Pacific speakers and an M&K subwoofer connected by in-wall bi-wiring. In the dining/living/kitchen area I have a 32" Samsung LED (Freeview builtin) on a pivoting wallmount bracket. In the master bedroom I have a 42" Samsung LED (Freeview builtin) on an bertically-adjustable wallmount bracket.
A normal panasonic 5.1 system - nothing flashy - one of those built units that has a built in DVD player. The sound is good enough for most ears though :)
The wiring is all in wall. The media centre is a laptop running XBMC, which outputs sound via TOSLINK to the home theatre system and video via HDMI to a 1080p projector, which projects onto a 120 inch screen in the lounge.
What's missing is the ability to hook up the projector and the home theatre system to a set top box.
The set top box we do have is hooked up to the existing TV (a 42inch 720p plasma panasonic). Its a real basic one though - one of the cheap Zinwell ones you can get at DSE.
So no HDD recording of live TV or any play/pause functionality yet.
This freeview recorder would essentially set us up for 120 inch TV viewing and playback, which would rule!
pretty basic set up in my place, old school non-hd tube tv (the big chunky kind) hooked up to telstra clear digital cable TV. along with standard DVD player and VCR... Yes your right a VCR, we still use it on the odd occasion. TV and DVD get watched often but would not be focal part of the house. Would love freeview, doubled with or instead of telstra clears digital cable TV, not sure what i would do. probably make the most of two decoders using one to tape one channel and one to watch another if i could set it up to do that. and providing both programs were intended to come through the same decoder.
Hehe. Well, here goes.. We have a decent-enough entertainment system in our house, but most of it is dad's and dads only. We have a 52" Samsung HD Plasma hooked up to MySky HDi (which is a blessing, as it means I can record programs and watch them afterschool before dad gets back from work!) We have... well, we have surround sound set up but we lost the wire to go from the TV to the stereo, where the surround sound starts so that's a bit of a fail... We also have one old 32" TV in the 'rumpas room' for the old PlayStation 2 and that's where, if we got Freeview, I'd want it (so that more than one person can watch TV at once! I can't watch any programs as my dad's always watching the news, the fishing show...) as well as a 28 or so inch upstairs in my parents bedroom (where I have to run to to watch Glee etc)
Well, I am still struggling on with my ancient Toshiba 32" fed from a Digistar 811U. However when I visit my sister her 2.5 grainy channels definitely need this setup (along with a new aerial!)
