Ok, so here's a stupid question. When typing in text for the name of a recording, I cannot find the space key. Does it even exist?

Look above the box with the RED square and Symbols as text in it.

The space is the just under the "z"

Thx, it's a weird symbol which is why I didn't know it was a space.

PSA for all owners.
TVNZ is pulling out of Freeview OnDemand (Freeview+) next year.
Changes coming to Freeview On Demand - Freeview (freeviewnz.tv)

As there is no native TVNZ OnDemand app on these, Freeview+ will be pretty much useless (recorded and live TVNZ only).
We had a good run, but now I'm looking at either adding a MiBox to the DMR for streaming apps or switching to Dish TV A7070 (SmartVU+ Android TV FreeView Receiver) with external HDD.
Anyone else come across this news? What are your plans?

Why don't we just all email Panasonic and ask nicely for a TVNZ On Demand app? https://www.panasonic.co.nz/contact-us

I just did.

I have been thinking that what with On Demand and +1 channels a recorder is not necessary but then I realised that there is no getting Prime On Demand, and that I would miss the Keyword recording on the DMR.

@DataBitz - I didn't know you could add an HDD drive to the A7070 - would it allow recording of two channels at the same time? Does it do keyword?

Harvey Norman suggested the A7070 with an external HDD as a suitable replacement but I haven't explored it further yet. I don't know if it will allow two channels at the same time.

Reminds me a bit of of the Tivo situation when they stopped pushing the EPG and closed down. But at least the tivo could be chipped. I don't know about the new smartvu +. but the earlier non plus dongle one was a dog of a device from my experience and wasted many hours on it trying to get it working properly without freezing our losing connections, or apps not aorking and ended up having to return it when it became unusable.

To my knowledge the A7070 doesn't support recording of the Freeview over the air channels. When I looked at one for a friend, I'm sure there was a message saying that. You could probably record to an external drive using something like PVR Live and the Live Channels app to record an IPTV stream. Probably not 100% reliable though.

Just in from Panasonic regarding the TVNZ On Demand app.

Good Morning James

At this point, it does not look like a stand alone TVNZ App will be coming to the recorders, this is due to the recorders not having the required hardware to support the TVNZ App.

So now we know.

I've had problems with Neon on this device in the last few hours. It hangs and can't find what I want to watch (it has no problems with trailers though). I have also subscribed to Netflix and that is working fine.

Neon still works fine on my PC though so ...?

Which brings me to my question. How can I uninstall then reinstall applications or update applications? I cannot find the option. I can install them but I can't see how to remove them except from the internet menu but not permanently.

I recently purchased a Panasonic DMR-HWT260 and have set it up and seems to be recording ok. However I've come across something I can't find out anything about.

On a few channels when I click in the Guide to record them I don't get the popup menu to select either "Single Timer Record" or "Series Timer Record". It just goes straight to the "Single Timer Record" screen with no option for series?

The channels it is doing this on are:

8 (WIN)

32 (SBS World Movies)

68 (Racing.com)

80 (WIN HD)

81 (Bold)

82 (Peach)

83 (Sky News)

84 (TVSN)

Has anyone else experienced this? It doesn't really seem like normal behaviour as all the other channels give the option for both recording methods (and I tend to record full series).

As the instructions say, "If the screen for selecting single or series timer recording appears" my guess is that it depends on some data received from the source channel or from the source for the guide. My wife is the one who usually sets the recording and she says that it always comes up for her, no matter whether the programme is a series or not, so I'm not sure why that is. However, you can set a timer recording manually and set it to repeat at various time intervals. Check the manual for details though you may need to experiment with it, as I did, to get it right.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I've read the manual back to front and searched Google today with no real explanation. I know it has the line in the manual about "If the screen for selecting single or series timer recording appears" but there's nothing in there on why it wouldn't appear, and it kind of seems odd for it not too when the shows I'm selecting are reoccurring shows, like the news or other shows that are on every night at that exact time. Also, on the other channels where you do get that popup selection screen it even appears on shows that aren't on every night, and may only be on once every now and then (just tested on "The Bay" and it came up with the series option, but it's not even on next week).

So you're probably right, it might be something to do with how the particular station (all the 8's in my case which is the Channel 10 station here)  is sending out the program data.

If you have a moment do you think you could check those channels on yours to see if the popup appears? You don't have to record anything just press the middle "ok" button on the channel in the guide and then "Return" to go back to the guide screen.

I don't have those channels (I'm on NZ terrestrial Freeview) but I did check through about half my channels and there were three that didn't show the popup: 20 TVSN Shopping, 31 Parliament and 33 C33. Some of those programmes I tried were not just one-off programmes so should have shown the series popup.
