I don't need this for myself but was thinking about getting my parents a Freeview box for Xmas as they only have an old TV and a cheap DVD player and not great TV reception at the moment.

This would be awesome for them as it includes a recorder so my Mum won't an episode of Coro Street again.

Thanks.

Javahn: MEAN! This device would make my basic set-up, intermediate

My current setup:

42 inch LCD TV
PS3
FreeView HD
Wii
DVD/USB player

All the above connected to a 5.1 home theatre via HDMI cables

Wii connected to WLAN
PS3 has connection to LAN

3 laptops and 1 desktop on the WLAN/LAN, streaming video etc to PS3 via TVersity. PS3 will only play DVD, BR and rips of movies so use DVD/USB player to play cam, TS etc

Did have a TV DVR setup on a 2nd PC but not any more :( was looking into getting My FreeView but decided to wait for Google TV to hit NZ

My current setup includes a Panasonic DMR-BW850, a MagicTV and a 42" Plasma. Now that I have gone full HD, the 42" plasma could certainly be upgraded to a bigger size. If I won the Homecast, it would make a great Christmas present for my parents.

As much as I don't really agree with receiving direct emails that appear to be an advertising gimick, I do need a freeview decoder after the box of rubbish from 1-Day day didn't work and has now been sent back!

Cheers

Samsung 42" plasma with MySky HDI -could always use a second box though. As for the shaneless plug I just received my Kindle 3 in the mail - works a treat now just need to find a case for it.... so many to choose from.

Hi there, can you tell us what the connections on the back are available?

I gather it has at least one HDMI port...  does it have other inputs?  Ethernet port? USB Ports? etc

There was a time I thought people with big screen tv's were tryhard wannabe's ... and then out of the blue I found myself NEEDING one.

I researched the hell out of it.  I learned all I needed to know to go up against the male dominated stores, armed with information I went hunting.

I ended up with a 50" LG Plasma that comes with USB and enough HDMI slots to satisfy ...

I love it like a loving thing.

And then I decided the beautiful Apple TV2 would fit nicely underneath the TV.  It is a box of happiness wrapped in style that continues to delight.

I also have an iPod speaker system by the TV but it is sulking from lack of use.

I have a 32 Samsung LED TV and a Mitsubishi HD4000 720p projector. This runs through a Pioneer 6.1 Receiver and Tannoy Sub/Satellite speakers. I currently have MySky, a PS3 running PlayTV imported from the UK, which is a bit annoying as the program guide doesn't work well, so a nice freeview HD recorder would be great.

We have:
A Samsung 42" LCD
Pioneer Receiver
Wharfedale 5.1 Surround Speakers
PC with Analogue & DVB-S tuners running MediaPortal (soon to be upgraded to DVB-T & Blu-Ray Player)

However, we're entering this comp because my wife's parents need a FreeView HD recorder :)

My entertainment 'zone' is a 32" Panasonic LCD, Pioneer Amp, and Panasonic Blu-ray. Enough to help me chill down after a hard day!

Looks good: it says it has dual tuners but can I put two inputs to it ? I have a satellite dish pointed at Optus D2 connected to my HTPC but I wouldnt mind if this device could sit before the Home Theatre and allow us to record more channels ( I only have a single TV tuner card in the HTPC)

Hope I win..and will find out eh?
