giollarnat:Zipdisk:giollarnat: Zipdisk this used to be the case with many especially on HD programs on TV1 and TV3. Ever since the 2nd to last firmware update these problems for the most part disappeared. (documented in the thread here somewhere). They certainly are a thing of the past for me.
I am using the 1.1f Firmware.
i have noticed that my old IDE HDD struggles at times (even though it is 7200rpm) especially when recording something in HD and watching something recorded simultaneously ... the speed of HDD might be part of the equation?
Ralph: Yes, probably the HD performance has an impact. I've got a new WD disk and it works fine. Even extended the USB cable by 1 meter which is always a bit "dangerous" but seems to work fine.
I haven't had any success trying to trancode the MP2-TS files to something that my XBMC can easily handle, but no luck so far. Anybody have any tips? MeGui and ffmpeg seem to not like the format...
But I still have a large block of Popular trees in its path.

diamonddata: is it just MY unit or does the t1020 reboots itself randomly?
I've had it for several months now, and find it reboots itself every few days.
I'm not in front of it 24/7 so it may reboot more frequently, but I'm finding it reboots often enough to frustrate me.
these frequent reboots makes the t1020 not so good for recording or watching.
e.g. i was watching the amazing race last night, and it rebooted itself at the closing of the show. good thing analogue is still up or i would have missed the ending.
Ralph: So looks like some content is transcodable, while others isn't. I guess the high-value stuff, like RWC etc is encrypted, but the Sponge Bob stuff isn't.
Ralph: Hi Mac2008, I was thinking - if I got a second T1020, would that play content stored on a drive which recorded from the first T1020? I assume so, but I guess there's a possibility that the encryption is specific to the T1020 that did the recording. Do you know if it's possible?
sultanoswing: IMHO, and sort of off topic, and I do like the do-it-yourself aspect of flashing these T1020 boxes to be a PVR - but reading all of the fuss above about freezing, firmware upgrades and trouble transcoding, and file shifting, I am left with the overwhelming impression that 4 letters represent a far easier solution:
