Do we ever.

Go back and read the first few pages of this thread.

Basically it's to do with the Freeview part of the box.  A reboot fixes it for a while, as does disabling the Freeview addon.

I have the FreePlus setting  switched off. So it can't be that.

Well I tried the reboot and it appears to have fixed the issue. What a PITA!

Hahahah I like that do we ever reference.

We are still using ours, We use freeview but I think it was turning off the plus or live is it that fixed the issuse.

They obviously never fixed it with a firmware update and from memory we were dealing directly with a Panasonic technician over it as well.

Did they release a newer model of it at all ??

I had a weird problem the other day. While recording a channel, the other channels blanked out and said "No signal" even though it was fine from my main TV tuner (all channels were still on air). I thought this isn't good because we are supposed to be able to record two channels at once. I stopped the recording and all the channels came back. I started it again and they all disappeared except the one I was recording. In the end I let it record while I went out. When I came back and the recording had stopped, ALL channels including the one I was recording now had "No Signal". Switching the Panasonic off and on didn't help. I had to switch it off and on at the wall before it came right. Has anyone else seen this issue?

I got a SmartVU SV11 so we can still stream content from TVNZ OnDemand. It seems fine, though I've just set it up. However, it cannot record, of course (believe me, there are reasons for me to want to record some programmes) so continued use of the DMR-HWT260 is required. The SmartVU takes up the HDMI port on my TV (a, now old, Sony Bravia KLV-32U300A) so I need a way to connect the recorder HDMI port to other TV inputs. There is a VGA port and audio port for plugging in a PC, so an HDMI->VGA/audio adaptor seems ideal (such as this Belkin adaptor) but all the ones I've seen mention a separate power source, in some situations but no definitive info on what those situations are. I'm hoping that the HDMI port on the Panasonic will provide enough power for this. Any thoughts? Are there other, non-HDMI, ways to connect the two devices that might be better/cheaper?

Update: Belkin say the adaptor would need to be powered. Which rules that idea out. My son said just get another TV with two HDMI ports - that might have to be the answer!

Thanks. That will do the job nicely. I can't believe I couldn't find that, as I bought the SmartVU from PB Tech - could have got both together but I'd forgotten that the DMR had no other output options and thought I could connect another way. This is nice and only needs a button pushed to switch between inputs.

Thanks again.

Just bought one on trademe. Cheapskate as I am got it for $51 plus carriage. Replaces my 10 year old DMR-XW380 (I never used the DVD facility).

So far everything is pretty satisfactory and I found out about the Green button for OnDemand on another thread. I need to buy more paper so I can finish printing the manual but does it tell you about the Green button?

Only negative is the lack of an easily visible recording notification. My previous recorder had 2 Red lights which blinked then went fully on to indicate recording in progress. Or am I missing something in the manual?

I thought the on demand function of these boxes was about to go away?

No, it's only TVNZ, 2 and Duke which have pulled out.

There is a red light on the right of the display on the box when it is recording. See "Display" on page 7 of the DMR-HWT260 operational instructions.

The red lights for the recording notification should be easily visible if you flip the front panel down.

Thanks guys. I didn't realise the front flap existed. It does make that indicator light more obvious and it is red but it's still much smaller and less visible than what I was used to.

This model has a too dim display, even at full brightness.

Found that the bottom LH button labelled AUDIO on the remote gives an onscreen display showing single or two tuners recording.

Now trying to find a Record setting for SSTL (Captions) to be permanently ON.

Seems Captions recording is automatic since they are part of the transmitted signal. Very slight difference in switching them ON/OFF depending on viewing Live or Recorded.

My current (10 year old) tv is a Panny as is my faulty HDD. Both remotes work for the DMR-HWT260.
