Is anybody able suggest a good alternative to the Harmony for programmable third party remotes for the Magic TV?

One feature I'll suggest to be added to the Magic TV would be a PAL Speed-up correction movie mode. Nearly all movies are filmed at 24Hz meaning 50Hz broadcasters play back the video at a faster pace than it was filmed at.

I don't know about others but I find it degrades the viewing and ruins the pacing of some films. So being able to select to play a recording 4% slower would be useful.

how would that work if the frames were cropped on broadcast and the tv were refreshing at 50 /100 hz ? wouldnt it then be choppy ? just a dumb question from the uneducated ;)

This was commonly the case when movies were distributed for broadcast on film, but in this digital age I suspect this is no longer true, especially for HD formats.

I havent really ever noticed that something ever seemed to run faster than it should to be honest - but as that article says telecine judder from NTSC is annoying as hell and VERY noticeable. Give me smooth every time - its something like 2.5 seconds faster per minute - are you really sure its going to affect the pacing of a film that much?

Technically, this cannot be done while watching live TV on the Magic TV.

Assuming the feature could be done for playing back recorded programmes, it'll still be a hassle to use. For playing 24p movies that are sped up, the user will have to manually go into the video settings, change the video output format to 60Hz, then change another setting to enable the PAL speedup correction. For 50Hz video, or movies that are not sped up, the user will need to toggle those settings again. Since the user won't know which pair of settings are correct before playing back a programme, it'll always be a trial and error process. There is yet another problem, the Dolby Digital bitstream will likely be unsuitable, so the user will lose 5.1 sound from the receiver.

Although no one here has reported problems with HDMI audio, this change has been getting positive feedbacks from Australia. So here's a new beta firmware.

There is a new Magic TV Remote HD app that is enhanced for iPhone 5, while also supporting other iPhone models with iOS 4.3 or newer. It replaces the original non-HD app, which will be frozen for users with iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G.

In conjunction with MTV3700TD firmware 6.05 or above, the HD app also supports repeat button function.

50% of the market is Android OS and 40% for all iphone no matter the version. Is there something on the way for the majority of users ?

It makes sense to have iphone app developed first for PAID apps because iphone users are bigger spenders , BUT when free, Android should be the first to be released to cover the greatest market share. In previous years this would not have been the case , but even more so now with Apple losing Jobs forever and having some misfires of late.

Why not make a better physical remote though , or are you trending toward not providing a remote in future and releasing the commands to harmony and via Apps ?

All official Magic TV apps on both iOS and Android are free. There is an Android version of the remote app that existed for some time: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pms.mtvctrl&hl=en

Remote apps are fairly popular with a variety of AV equipment. I personally don't see them replacing physical remotes.

I have the 3600, and use 2lostkiwis 1 minute forward/8 second back modification. I am thinking of getting another PVR and am wondering what the community's views are on the 3700 vs other PVR's available in NZ. Reasons why one is preferred against another would be welcome.

With being stuck with not being able to skip commercials, how good is the fast forward/reverse on the 3700 & other units that may be owned by members?

Not many places sell the 3700, any theories on that?

all great questions there, i guess if people have funds they have Mysky , if not , no PVR there may not be many in the middle with loose funds up front .

I cant wait for Dec 1st were the last 40% of NZ will be forced into digital and it will create demand for a good PVR .

mind you the internet has begun to erode TV's market share so maybe PVR's are already on the way out ?!

When I told my old computer science classmates that I work on PVR, many of them don't understand why would anybody need that, saying why not just watch on-line, etc.
