If it was to launch I dobt that it would be on Freeview Satellite as everything is full now with the launch of Choice TV

Trackside will officially launch on the Freeview Satellite Platform too, you cant say there's no more space,

Can't FV just point to the Sky  channel which has TS on two channels  decrypted already????

Yes, Freeview will point to the unencrypted Sky Trackside signal. It won't be on the Freeview transponders.

I watched some of the tennis on one just because it looked so damn good. Put the quality of the stuff on sky to complete shame ;)

Ha, so did I mate.  Not really into it, but was well impressed with the quality.  The soccer world cup stuff was like that from memory, and the rugby world cup was pretty good too.

A free alternative to Sky Sports is a good thing. I think it would be great to see some football, especially the All Whites, on FTA TV.

A 5 day cricket test match with the Black Caps isn't as boring, as it will likely last 3 days...

Perhaps the deal will be for both racing channels rather than just Trackside. Its all money in the bank for the racing agency to get as many viewers as they can.

Just wondering where this extra space is? Obviously Firstlight don't mind about picture quality just like the other 90% of the country that barely cares about aspect ratios.

Typical red neck reaction there ;-) . I look forward to more sport.  Especially football.

More I think soccer had a huge chance to grip NZ fans at the last world cup.  For many it was an introduction into the sport.

You know what most NZ'rs took from it though?  Lots of posers faking injuries and then getting up unharmed when no penalty was awarded.  Hollywoods everywhere and that didn't sit right with our national psyche.

Much like playing rugby in helmets, leotards and shoulder pads, hasn't taken off here either.

I always thought I was not a soccer fan until I watched some of the Champions League on the late lamented SBS. So I welcome the initiative - the the very least we should support any attempt to shake the SKY smugness.
