Anyone know how to tune one of these tvs, when I plug it in its just snow. Cant find tuning in the options.

Once you have your TV tuned, you need to select your digital TV channel option on your remote.
There are no snow (analog) channels anymore.

To tune your TV, find the auto tune option in your remote menu.
The TV will probably try and find analog channels first (none) and then the digital channels.

Stupid questions. You do have a UHF antenna on the roof? And the f plug terminated cable is connected to it?
Chances are if the cable out of the wall is free floating and has an f plug then the other end is most likely connected to a satellite dish in which case you won't be able to tune anything without a satellite STB.

And you don't get snow on digital TV. You either get a picture or a blank screen.

im saying its not finding the channels.

anyway looks like the house has been set up for satelitte downstairs and pal upstairs. bizarre. not sure how hard it is to get a socket in downstairs from the aerial but assume its going to cost money.

Don't think it ever had a name. Just two prong plug for 300ohm ribbon. I never ever used one as the ribbon always connected to screw terminals on the old B & W sets. The 300ohm to 75ohm Balun came later when they started using Belling Lee sockets on colour TV.

yep definitely the sat dish wires, didnt even realise the house had one. strangely there is a black one as well, not sure what thats connected to. going to get a pal to pal to test on what i think is the uhf aerial entry point (but hard to confirm)

at one stage if you got sky they put a second cable in and were not all that fussy about matching cable colours. Go look at the sat, you will likely see both a white and a black cable going to it.

If the rest of the house has PAL connectors then it's likely previous tenants had Sky and the black cable was used to distribute Sky round the other rooms via an rf modulator. You'd need to trace where it goes to confirm. It may also connect to a diplexer somewhere to combine with an antenna on the roof? Sounds like lots of cable tracing required.

i think the big mistake is what i thought looked like a UHF aerial is just a plain TV aerial. expensive mistake. just tried pal to pal into the pal in house connection and no digital signals found.

not spending $150 on an aerial for the landlord, likely be selling the tv instead.

next time will look for dual band tv.

all a bit deflating for us as this was our first experience into AV products.

Sat signal is not HD, youre better off getting your current tv working. Try an indoors uhf antenna.

the only reason i said that is your asking a simple question about something thats explained in the manual you would have got, or could get from the internet for your tv. i know it sounds harsh and im sorry about that but you would be amazed at how many people over look things like that.

all good jase, was just pointing out that i was reading the manual and was confused why nothing was setting up. i really thought i had it set up correctly but was well off the mark. and now looks like i dont even have an aerial.

i thought internal aerials only work if you are near a repeater? is there any way to find how close we are?

if we could get an aerial sub $50 just to watch choice tv and som sports that would do us. we plan to watch 80% net streaming anyway once we get up to speed with the wonders of the net world.

could just buy a cheap satellite freeview decoder instead of selling the TV can get them for under 100
