I could never get scanning on hvr2200 working, I just created the channels manually. As for the screen lag etc, most likely signal problem.

I dont think its signal cause i get everything perfectly. before (when i had 1gb ram and hardware decoding was off) when it lagged it went back about 2 mins and freezed on a picture from then, then carried on.. Even say if i changed channel, if it was within that time, i would have a flash back of the other channel...

Ideas??

Also i had prime working.. but now its not? i didnt change anything, i didnt even turn off the pc!

Thanks for all your help!

Did you do what mcraenz did by creating the channels manually?

What size have you set for your timeslip files?  (TV-Server Config: Recorder Settings - TimeSlip Buffer)  That may have an affect on the looping.
Also check where your files are being stored and that there is plenty of room on the drive for them (they are BIG).
As far as signal strength goes, digital is there or its not.  You won't get a snowy picture like analogue, you will get breakup, pixelation and freezing.  One thing I have noted with MP is that when it strikes a problem the video freezes but the audio continues.  Pressing step fwd usually fixes it.
And again with the signal, you say it worked when you had only 1 Gig of RAM.  Is there a chance you disturbed the aerial connection while you were installing extra RAM or other components?

I ment it was worse when i had only 1gb ram. i have a WD 640gb hdd with about 150gb free, so i dont think its that. it does the same lagg thing on recorded video.. i have tryed adding prime manualy, but still nothing. what is strange is that it found it, but then lost it...

is it normal that the channels change really slow?

Sorry im at work, cant reply quickly.

I believe the reason channel changes are slow is because of the lag that occurs as data is written to disk as a .ts then read and decoded then displayed.  That's why its not instantaneous like analogue.  Even the new iDTVs from Sony (in-built FreeviewHD) have a lag after channel selection until they are displaying anything useful.

I'll chip in hear with my own experience on the 2200.  Having setup MP before I had an tuner card was relatively simple and stable but after the 2200 I have had lots of problems and stability issues.

I couldn't get analogue scanning on the 2200 to pick up Prime or Triangle so I did that manually today which worked.  I had to enter manual frequencies though as the TV server did not find the channels when I just entered the channel numbers.  Also required reboots each time entered information to get it to work.

So I have digital and analogue working at the same time.  But there is a bug in MP I have found.  If you set MP to start TV automatically when you go to MY TV I can only select channels in the current analogue or digital group.  If your last station you watched was analogue and you want to watch a digital channel you have to do it when TV is off.  If TV is on you get the "unable to start time shifting" error which I have seen all too often in setting up MP.  I have applied the timeshift error patch file and am running:

MP RC2 / SVN 07-11-2008 / 2200 driver 7.2.9.26105

So seems to be a problem with MP and or MP server but not sure which.

Cheers
Andy

I can understand your frustration, I have been close to throwing the whole project out a couple oftimes but with perserverance I seem to almost be there apart from some bugs with TV SERVER and CLIENT.  The PAF is almost there once the TV gets sorted and you end up with a very nice all encompassing entertainment system front end.

MP2 is a WHILE off. Ask anyone who's successfully built a stable HTPC, it takes many hours of fine tuning.

I stick with MP because it has the best features, including some very neat ones that no other PVR software has (i.e. recording 2 channel at once on the same card)  And I find it very stable. No matter what you're going to need to put in a lot of effort to get a top notch PVR. You could just install the software that came with the card, it's very basic but I'm sure it will work fine.

Have you put configured your card as a hybrid? i.e. grouped the analog/digital tuners? If you want to check if you've got a signal problem (which I suspect) get DVB viewer and see if you get lag or picture breakup if you then there's your problem.

@andynz: Have you reported this bug?

btw the best place to get MP support is the MP forum :)

Hi mcraenz

Yes reported the bug yesterday but no reply so far.  Can you explain the Hybrid thing?  I have 3 groups, analogue, digital and all.  Does having an all group cause problems?

In MP RC2 when I configured my HVR-3000s as hybrid cards TV-Server continued to timeslip even when MP closed.  Problem disappeared when I deleted the hybrids.  I have contributed to a bug report on MP forum.
