PANiCnz: I’m not the target audience for this box but I’d love to install Linux on it and run tvheadend.

Could be extremely difficult, it's likely running an extremely locked down bootloader (like the Xiaomi Mi Box) so it would be impossible to install Linux on it

@eracode: Have read right through the web page and specs etc for this and something I don’t understand is: can this unit stream live TV (i.e. over WiFi) in the same way that the new FV streaming dongle can? It has UHF aerial and satellite dish inputs - does one of these need to be used to get live TV?

Also not clear is whether the remote is Bluetooth like the streaming dongle remote? The blurb doesn’t say that it’s BT so I’m guessing it’s standard IR.

The remote control is Bluetooth, like the streaming dongle. It will ask to pair a remote by putting it in pairing mode (pushing two buttons for three seconds) as first thing so you can proceed with setup. It shows on-screen instructions with images on how to do this.

Unlike the streaming dongle, this model uses either the satellite or terrestrial inputs for live TV. It uses your broadband for On Demand streaming. It does not have the option of live streaming.

Surely you could just run the android TVH apk, assuming it could detect the tuner.

No Netflix is a bit of a shocker!

That's going to seriously hamper sales of something that's supposed to be a smart device and goes for over $400.

Has the box been submitted for Netflix certification?

And will it be in line to get a Pie upgrade like the dongle device?

Anyone from DishTV care to comment?

Looking like they've got something I could have gone for split over two different devices. Total bummer.

Got a pic of the remote MF? Does it have dedicated (Netflix etc) buttons like the SmartVU?

"While Freeview would love to include Netflix on the New Freeview Recorder and have indicated to Netflix that we'd like to work together to make that happen, it is up to Netflix to determine when their requisite certification procedures would take place before Netflix can be introduced."

How does it handle 3 x HD recordings at once? I suspect one will be thrown onto the +1hr non HD option.

To us its multiple tuners enable simultaneous recording, including series linking, across multiple channels, do I need to have both a UHF aerial and saterlite disc?

Oh stop complaining and test the damn thing! hahahahaha!!

Its amazing how many times broadcasters put on three decent shows on HD at the same time and your recorder has a crisis and bumps one to the +1hr recording....

(Or in the case of the Panasonic - it puts them on a random +1hr recording for absolutely no reason - and this can even be mid way through an HD series....i regularly check my planner for the upcoming recording to ensure all are HD)
