Damn, the workaround only works when viewing live TV.

I just discovered that if I try to record Prime, and then stop recording, it keeps the Prime TV stream running, so if you then go back to Prime you get the error message, since you have only got one effective analogue tuner and it is still in use.

Can't seem to to stop the analogue stream without restarting the TV server. :(

Thought I'd try your fix but when I checked I had already done it!

Still getting frozen image and no sound when changing channels till I turn TV off and on. Have written 2 posts in the MP forums but no reply for a week now.

Not quite sure who to turn to for support.

Are you guys using Vista?

Kiwijunglist is using XP and appears to have no problem with Prime in Media Portal on the HVR2200.

Hi,

I found your post on the MP forums and found that you were using XP too, so that saved me the hassle of install XP, so I focused back on the various options and I finally SOLVED it properly!!!! (well I hope!)

Here's what I did...

1. (with the default card order list) I grouped the 1st digital and 1st analog card as a hybrid, and then the 2nd digital and 2nd analog card as a second hybrid, like your supposed to.

2. Next (the step that solves my problems) I moved the 2nd analog card up the priority list.

Now I can switch channels as much a I want, and record analog and digital at the same time as well as viewing a third channel in the same digital mux.

Give that a go!

Now...just got to get an EPG for Prime's working and I'll be very happy! :)

Well ill have to give it ago, ive broken something else now, lol only prime will work. so i might do a full reinstall now that i know what im doing.

Tried your idea amigo and it seems to work for me too. Tried changing channels numerous times and it kept changing.

Looks like a fix!!

I still have the problem of changing between channels causes a frozen image and no sound on the next channel. Needsa tv off then on again. Only happens with digital channels. I think I have narrowed the problem down to when you change between different source formats. Flicking between TV1, TV2, parliment etc works fine as they are all standard definition. It's when I change from TV3 1080i to SD channels that the problem happens. If I do this few times MP just lockes up.

Anyway thanks amigo, one step forward to getting TV working.

Amigos fix is still working for me and I seem to have fixed the channel freezing and occasional lockups and BOSD. Found a suggestion in the MP forums to disable "exclusive mode" in the VRM9 settings. Tried that and so far no freezing and I can skip between channels.

It the EPG I use. It is free and updates for 7 days. YOU set the channels you need EPG for. It has many SkyTV channels in there! i do not have Sky, I cannot confirm if they are working ok or not. I use it for the DVB-T channels only. I checked it several times and the EPG matched the shows on Prime, so I assume it is working properly (it dowloads proper data).

I do not have an analogue tv tuner, but here is what I did:
- when scan dvb-t channels, you have 3 test channels, with no useable signal (I think).
- rename one of them to "Prime"
- tick appropiate options to have that channel displayed in EPG, but not as a viewing channel.

That's all I did, Prime shows in the EPG, but I cannot actually switch to the associated channel (as I do not have analogue card - yet), it skips to next channel. I use it not to set recordings (of course) but to keep an eye on "what's next" and to use the "alert me" function available in Media Portal. For the users with analogue tuner, of course the recording will work as it is supposed to work.

Let us know if this works for you.

This makes things a bit better for me too. I guess the HVR2200 first hybrid tuner doesn't like switching back and forth between analog and digital, so make one tuner prefer digital and one prefer analog helps. Thank you!!

Thanks mate, I'll give it a go.

I'm just in the process of setting up a whole new machine. Did some inital trials using my old computer and a tuner card. Now that I see things should work quite nicely I've splashed out on new dedicated gear. Hopefully it all works on the new hardware!

Kiwijunglist - I'm setting up the same motherboard, tv card as you, but with a Athlon 5200 X2, nVidia 8500 and vista. So I'll try the onboard graphics first before putting in the graphics card, so I'll let you know if I can get the HD3200 playing nicely.

You'll be encouraged to know that I've just tested MP with the HD3200 on the GA-MA78GM-S2H and as far as I can tell (only crappy infomercials on at this hour), I can switch between every digital channel, and Prime analogue with a pretty much perfect image and it appears that HD acceration is working. There may be a very slight judder in fast pans, but not sure. I'm beginning to wonder if it is worth putting the nVidia 8500 in!

The only difference to you is I'm using Vista and have installed the latest Catalyst 8.7 driver.

Note: This is also on a fresh install of Vista SP1, PowerDVD 8, and MP1 RC2 with default settings. Haven't installed any other software or codecs.

I'm just about to setup a HTPC with a HVR-2200 and Media Portal, but on Vista - so I hope your solution works for me as well!

To make sure the fix is fully working, I was wondering if you had tried the following tests:
(1) Start recording a digital channel; then see if you can switch between watching analogue and digital channels (on a different mux to the one you are recording)
(2) Start recording an analogue channel; then see if you can switch between watching analogue (different to the one you're recording) and digital channels

I'm thinking that the scenarios you have tested already don't force a tuner to go from being analogue to digital, and vice versa.

Would be interested to know what you think / find out.

Thanks good to know. Few questions; (as i'm reluctant to install vista32 sp1 as i only just went back to XP Pro SP2)

(1) Are you using Vista32 SP1?

I was previously using Vista64 SP1, so that may of been one of the problems. Also when i had vista, i only had MP RC1.
I can't remember if catalyst 8.7 was out when i was testing, but it is possible i only had 8.6

(2) I'm guessing you are using EVR in mediaportal, please confirm this.

(3) If you load up the TV Guide with TV running, and make it so you can still see the TV in the background, ie the TV guide using overlayed text over the video, do you get a lot of flickering. If your not sure how to do it, you can load up TV in full screen, then right click and choose TV guide, then put the mouse near the top of the screen and click one of the little icons up the top.

(4) Can you please do the following test for me...

Go into mediaportal condiguration -> general options -> disable full screen mode.
Run mediaportal if a window, then load up task manager using ctrl+alt+del
what cpu useage does it report with each channel.
now that i have hardware accleration i get about 0-5% and fast pans seem jitter free.

(5) Is mediaportal stable. Ie have you watched an evening worth of TV without it crashing?

(6) What version of PDVD are you using? - Is it PDVD8 Ultra version 1830 ?
