Magic TV does not officially support network access from PC. However, it uses the standard NFS protocol for inter-Magic TV network playback and recording. After turning on the Network HDD Server in the Gadgets menu, and doing some google search for "Magic TV NFS mount" and google translate, you may be able to find out how to let a PC access it, which I cannot help further.

Even if you succeed, remember that the HD channels are encrypted and cannot be played back on PC due to Freeview conformance.

1. Please empty the trash folder in Recorded Programme List
2. Please perform Settings -> Recording -> Advanced -> Check and Repair System HDD
3. If you don't need timeshift, turn it off in Settings -> Timeshift -> Instant Rewind

Cheers that worked, Does this indicate that the hdd is on the way out, I havent turned off timeshift as I find it quite handy

You may continue to use it, until other symptoms appear, such as freezing during file playback or recording or timeshift buffering.

I've just re-tested formatting of 4TB System HDD and USB HDD by MTV3700TD and the full capacity is recognized. The HDD used in the System HDD test is a Seagate 4000DM000.

This is just posted for your information only, definitely NOT a recommendation.

Any chance of getting HDMI CEC support in a future firmware update? It makes some rather nice features possible:
- Have it turn on automatically when you switch the TV to it
- Optionally have it go into standby when turning off the TV
- Ability to control it with the regular non-programmable TV remote via the HDMI cable when its on screen (probably a nice alternative to MCE and XBox remotes for people with multiple MagicTV boxes)

And the feature I miss the most on the Magic TV: It can't take advantage of routing control. CEC devices appear as though they're directly plugged into my TV. I can switch straight to them without messing around with getting the AV Receiver onto the right input.

Perhaps not much chance.

There'd be compatibility issues with different brands and may make things confusing for some users. Personally, I find that it creates inconveniences for me in certain scenarios, e.g. turning a device off when I don't want to.

I'd hope there would only be compatibility issues with buggy firmware but I guess it is possible some vendors would intentionally cripple their implementation to only work with their own hardware. My Sony TV at least was able to control my Raspberry Pi running XBMC via CEC right out of the box without fiddling with any settings or anything. It just appeared in the device selection list as raspbmc, the playback and navigation buttons on the TV remote all control XBMC exactly as you'd expect them to do. All quite seamless really.

As for the auto power off stuff, some hardware at least seems to provide separate options to control that behaviour. My blu-ray player has a separate "Linked to TV-off" setting which can be set to make it it ignore the please-turn-off signal sent by the TV. I'd assume if CEC were ever added to the Magic TV firmware (disabled by default so as to not surprise users with unexpected behaviour of course) a similar setting could be added to solve that particular issue.

I personally like the power control features though - along with the TVs ability to 'find' the box via CEC and have receiver automatically switch to the right input it saves a reasonable amount of unnecessary button pressing. I can't really use the Magic TV box for much when the TV is off so it may as well automatically go into standby if its not currently recording when I switch the TV off.

I suspect that if Magic TV implements CEC, something like these may happen with some brands of TV:

Suppose Magic TV automatically wakeup from standby for scheduled recording,
(1) if the user is watching another source, say Blu-ray player, the TV may suddenly switch to Magic TV
(2) if this wakeup occurs when people are sleeping, the TV turns itself on and outputs sound...

In the case of my blu-ray player I can safely turn it on without the TV doing anything - its not until it starts playing a disc that all the input switching and TV turning on happens.

As far as I can tell input switching (and TV turning on) is only ever done when the device at the end of the cable explicitly requests it. When the blu-ray player starts playing a disc it sends out an I-need-attention message. All CEC-enabled HDMI switches which notice this message on one of their inputs switch to that input and forward the message on.

Blu-ray player starts playing a disc and sends out an I-need-attention message to get the video on screen.
AV Receiver notices the I-need-attention message on input 3. AV receiver switches to input 3 and then forwards the message on to the next switch in the chain (the TV)
TV notices the I-need-attention message on input 1. TV turns on and switches to input 1
the TV is now on with the blu-ray playing on screen

I believe input switching is done the same way when you tell the TV to switch to a device. The TV sends a message to the device saying "You're now the active device" and the device responds by sending out an I-need-attention message to get itself on screen.

I have received a question from a user who configured the account to not receive any message, about Magic TV support of MHEG Interactive Channel content in channel 600.

MTV3700TD was one of the first devices designed to support MHEG Interactive Channel, and to my understanding it was one of the reference platforms during the Freeview trial of the technology, as well as being the demonstration platform for the MHEG engine provider who tries to sell the technology to broadcasters in other countries.

However, I have not received any update regarding the trials, and given the fact that MHEG Interactive Channel has evolved since Magic TV originally implemented it, I'm not sure about whether it is still completely compatible with system Freeview uses and the content you're going to receive.

I just replaced my mtv3600 with a mtv3700 and am now finding that the status no longer changes when I view a program so I now don't know if I've watched before. Also if I watch a program using the series view it does not take me back to that same view when stops. It would also me great to have a 4 minute skip forward. Are there any firmware updates that might solve these issues?

The magic tv is far better than the Vodafone Telstra box which I just returned even though they were offering for free.

I just wanted to note that mounting via NFS does work. but Magic TV sure stores its content in a weird way. Are your programmers aware that it is possible to have more than 1 file handle open at once? [i.e. If you're recording more that 1 program at once, it really isn't necessary to write each 5 minute chunk of data into a separate file].

If you are bothered by internal file splitting into 5 minute chunks (required for timeshift to maintain a nearly constant total duration), disable Settings -> Timeshift -> Instant Rewind.

This has nothing to do with managing file handles.
