Does HDMI still only give 2 channel PCM audio?  I cant be bothered rearranging my inputs to check Laughing
I'll assume it does since you're also using optical.

Gibbo, I have the same situation as you.  For me there are no audio dropouts, but I know of others who still have them on V1.04 public.  I have fast clock and around twice a week need to switch right off at rear switch because it hangs and won't change channels.

I have an Extra Terrestrial box and I am experiencing pixelated picture issues and want to try and work out if it is the ET box or reception problems.  I started with pixelated picture, audio drop out and remote not working. Upgraded to 1.04 (5th Sept version) audio fixed, remote working, picture still pixelated. Noted signal strength was about 25%, bought new aerial, realigned, fresh cut cable etc. Signal jumped to about 60% (in installation menu), 50% using i function on remote, however, no change to picture quality. Upgraded to 1.04 16th September, no change to picture quality, still breaking up, Q is 100%. We can see the Sky Tower, though Remuera is probably closer, I have tried both, no difference (we are in Glendowie). I note that if I use the EPG function, the quality in the windows deteriorates markedly and about a 1/3 of the time it just becomes a blur. If it was a signal problem, should not the issue just remain the same in the EPG window (or get better), because it gets worst does that indicate it is the decoder that is the issue? I also note as the picture gets more complex the pixilation issue gets more frequent, so if the broadcast signal is a constant stream it would indicate a decoder issue, if it is variable bit rate broadcast, then the signal is probably the issue. Can anyone advise the broadcast stream’s attributes or if anyone has had the EPG picture get worse?

One of the new features of the Sept 16th firmware is that the List key displays the current Mux frequencies you're tuned into for each channel. These will vary by which site you're receiving from, but i can tell you these are the ones my ET is using when pointed to Pinehill.

1. TV1 530MHz

2. TV2 530MHz

3. TV3 562MHz

4. C4 562 MHz

5. Maori 626MHz

6. TVNZ6  530MHz

7. TVNZ7 530MHz

8.  Sport Extra 530MHz

9. Parliament 626MHz

100. Test Channel 626MHz

I have v1.04 from 12th september.
satlinknz.co.nz now shows v1.04 from 18th sept.

Are these different?
What's changed?
Y not call it V1.05 to avoid confusion, or at least1.04a, b, c etc!

eXtra Terrestrial Upgrade      Firmware 1.04  18 Sept 08
Fixes optical audio breakup and Q/S displays being swapped.

DO NOT UPDATE WITH THIS FIRMWARE AT LEAST IN HAMILTON/WAIKATO JUST YET.

I just spoke to Peter and they are working on a fix for the Kordia Mux channels in the Waikato.
Right now the only fix for things like tvCentral is to downgrade to the V1.3 firmware, and hence bring back some other problems.
If you don't watch things on Kordia MUX (tvCentral, Parliment, Freeview Demo, etc) then the Latest V1.4 firmware (18/9/2008) has fixed the Q/S swapover and now has live updates of the Q/S (open list and select each channel, little windows updates with the channel and the Q/S shows live whats happening, usefull to diagnose transmission problems).

And a new section at the bottom of the page, thanks Peter, it helps a lot.

Current issues being addressed
Distortion on bottom audio red white output. Top ones are OK.
Dropout audio on coax connection

Download and update from here:

Yes, implementing my suggestion (of known issues being addressed) is appreciated and a breath of fresh air!  Might I suggest that saving screen settings also from the main menu also be added.  A note of confirmation that saving to HDD continues to be planned would also be reassuring.  Thank you Peter.

I doubt Pinehill would interfere, if we draw a line through our location to Sky Tower we end up in the Waitakeres, to point at Pinehill would require a 70 degree rotation? Waiatarua is on the other side of Remuera (direct line), so Sky Tower and Remuera should be stronger than that signal.

Before I ask for a replacement box I just want to make sure I have covered all bases on my end.

Can anyone answer the VBR vs CBR of the broadcast signal?

Has anyone else had pixilation in the EPG box?

Is there anything else I should try?

I had the exact same pixelation (see my post a few pages back with a video of it) on one of my 3 boxes.

The V1.4 firmware seems to have fixed it, but given that it has also wiped out the Kordia MUX it maybe that something has changed in the firmware that, when fixed, will reintroduce the pixelation (note the Kordia problem is limited to Waikato users).

I did check the box (see many other posts earlier in this thread) and it was not reception or dual signals causing it, it was definatley a problem with the box/firmware.

I know Peter will swap the box, so simply return it to whoever you bought it from for a swap. No issues.

Regards
Mark

A small point, when upgrading firmware, (seems we will be doing a few more) do we need to turn the unit off to remove the USB device, or is it just OK to remove it following completion of the update?

I find the best way to ensure a clean install is to do a full power off, count to 10, power on, after the USB update has finished. When I power off, I remove the USB stick.

Note also, when I first followed the web site instructions I found them confusing, but Sprong gave me a better way.

Turn off power (wall or back of unit, BOTH are the SAME! electrically).
Insert USB
Turn Power on
Any time while "boot" is displayed press and hold "channel up" when USBx appears release and allow to count up to 100.
When control is returned (normally a channel is diplayed or setup screen) power off
Remove USB.
Count to 10
Power on
Complete any (re) setup required, enjoy.

So, Peter can confirm there is a problem with the coax audio that is being looked at?  It's not solely a reception issue (doubtful since other audio outputs are OK).  Seems like optical has been fixed in the last update, can anyone confirm?  I could switch to optical if it's 100% OK, but I'd rather stick with coax.

It's a great little box that does the basics well, so keep up the good work.  It's only improving.

P.S. Anyone know if HDMI audio can carry the DD bitstream/5.1 PCM on this box?
