Not sure there is any particular advise from DishTV, without looking inside, I assume there are no moving parts beyond the hard disk (as its not solid state). So guide lines from the hard drive manufactures would be all you can rely on.

Details here -> https://www.howtogeek.com/128397/does-hard-drive-orientation-affect-its-lifespan/ and via Mr Google.

Beyond that the unit its self did not come with any mount or feet on the "ends" of the case.

I would assume its fine a long as it can be secured in such that is will not fall over with the cables etc attached etc.

Cheers

Lee

I have just purchased a dishtv a2 on special at warehouse on Father’s Day.
I’m a previous user of dishtv pvr boxes s7090 and s8200 all purchased new.

The only small negative to date is wifi connectivity, I use the standard skinny modem on the highest spec’ed Unlimited plan.
Yet could not connect to 5ghz frequency, which was detected and listed as an option, but said could not connect as no signal found, the 2.4ghz connected first time.
That said signal strength looked to be down 2 bars.. though 5m distant. Some furniture and a part wooden wall structure.
iPhone shows full signal at a2 location.
In use was presented with ....no wifi signal ... notification several times. Again iPhone fine.
I miss the external wifi aerial as on the s8200 used at same location with no issues.

The a2 is running in sat mode into a 4K vein 65" tv, the s8200 input 1080p , the new a2 box inputs 4K
And although the sat is not 4K the picture is noticeably clearer than the old box.
So the upscaler on this box must be better than the onboard dish tv one.

The other noticeable difference is the super-speed epg, it’s lightening fast, and makes up
For the old Freeview epg that seems not longer available.

Pricespy doesn't seem to register them...

DishTV have them for $287.50 for a refurbished device. Guess these are some of the original release sold before they fixed up the big issues.

The box should pair to a Logitech Harmony Hub if the remote is Bluetooth based.

Anyone have that working?

I’ve found a work around for pairing this box to my Harmony Smart Hub, I’ll post instructions once I have all the buttons mapped and confirmed it all works as expected 👍🏻😄

HI,

Have you got the instruction written down that your able to share with us that are struggling to get it working as is with out needing to send it away to get an IR sensor put in?

I have to say that I have been a bit disappointed with Dish TV's responses to my questions. I still have issues with micro pauses of live TV and they admit this is an issue but say it is a difficult one. I asked if it was chip related and if so would they be replacing units - no response.

They have still not been able to get it certified for Netflix and so far I haven't been able to locate the Disney+ app in the playstore.

Still waiting for them to do an update so you can get the option to delete a recorded program after watching it - currently you have to exit it and then go back in and delete it. I think another geekzone member point this out further back in the thread.

Apart from these issues it goes ok. It had so much potential but hasn't so far lived up to that potential for me.

Just picked one one of these boxes for the wife and had a problem of it losing internet after a few mins.

Was connected to switch over cat6 (i.e., a reliable connection) and network wasn't showing any issues. A reboot would fix it but then happened again. Updated to latest firmware and still happened.

Looking at network info I saw it was getting IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, which reminded me I had IPv6 fully enabled on the network. Setting it to get IPv4 only and the problem disappeared.

Anyone else have IPv6 and see an issue with this box? Have another Android TV which also gets IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and doesn't have any issues so definitely isn't an underlying issue with Android TV. Might just be a particular problem with my network config (although everything else does work fine with IPv6).

I have been having a bit of a play and on the harmony hub if you use "google" and "android tv" you can get a remote set up that is close but does not have the menu button.

it ends up setting up a remote for a asus nexux player. the 2 buttons it is missing is the power button and the menu.

has anyone found a better option?

Update: I have found a better option use Nvidia Shield TV, only just loaded it but looks to have all the required buttons :-)

Update 2: just found that the R (record) button is not there not a major but not perfect.
