Agreed after seeing what SBS in Ozz had to offer before we lost it... Even the US home of pay TV has lots of top end sport on FTA..

Yes, Freeview will point to the unencrypted Sky Trackside signal. It won't be on the Freeview transponders.

No Freeview wont point to the SKY TP, I have talked to the Freeview Team and Trackside will be new on the Freeview TP

If only Freeview and Sky would co-operate a bit, it would save bandwidth. People could also have TV One and TV2 in HD via DVB-S if it wasn't encrypted. :-/

Don't know if it's 'co-operation' but Sky already use the Freeview transponders for SD feeds of channels that they have in their basic package. They don't return the favour however as they continue to encrypt the HD feeds of TV One, TV2 and TV3 :(

Sky do something for the common man with out the common man paying for it??

We could and should ask the broadcast minister to force Sky to make all channels that are FTA that they broadcast in HD FTA too.

Freeview-HD customers get 1,2 and 3 in HD. Why should Freeview-Sat customers miss out? This is an equity issue for people living remotely (ie beyond the Freeview-HD footprint areas).

And remember Sky don't pay a fee to rebroadcast FTA channels on their own services. They're getting them supplied for free.

I think it is only fair.

I think it is only fair.

I think that if they were made to pay a decent fee, they would just drop the channels. The real loser wouldn't be Sky, it would be TVNZ, as without their channels on the Sky box their viewer numbers could fall quite a bit - and this would mean they would have to drop their ad rates. TVNZ isn't doing Sky a favour by being on their box, they want and need to be on it.

Agreed.

If I could some how track/monitor the hourly usage of our Sky decoder I am sure I would find our family would have the Sky decoder on a FTA channel more than 80% of the time.

If I was hit with that cold hard statistic, it would probably be enough for me to prove to the family we could cancel Sky as we hardly watch sport and I now have US TV channels and Netflix and Hulu to watch.

Typical red neck reaction there ;-) . I look forward to more sport. Especially football.

More I think soccer had a huge chance to grip NZ fans at the last world cup. For many it was an introduction into the sport.

You know what most NZ'rs took from it though? Lots of posers faking injuries and then getting up unharmed when no penalty was awarded. Hollywoods everywhere and that didn't sit right with our national psyche.

This could take a while:

I guess it all comes down to the rules, as everyone is entitled to play to them.
If the rules reward this sort of behaviour then it's not entirely the players fault for utilising this angle.

It's a bit like people moaning about the drop goals in Rugby, but the rules give you 3 points for one.
Contrast that to league where it's 1 point for a drop goal and, funnily enough, you don't see as many of them.
