Gordy7: I have several S7070R.

I have found them reliable.

Use HDMI to the TV

Don't use any storage as there is only one tuner.

Found the menu system pretty good and easy to install.

Find the EPG sometimes slow or requires a second button press.
I like the EPG channel review which leaves the current channel operating until you decide to select a new channel.

Had one success with OTH update but find that the USB update easy to use.

Switching from radio to TV requires pressing another button first - mostly use exit button first.

Cheers

Thanks for that Gordy7!

Best thing I find working for a Hamilton based retailer that sells your products;

Actual physical support :)

Though the Magic TV 3600 isn't actually a Dish product, you do market/support them.

I have mixed feelings about my unit. Really like the user features, menus, etc, but it is being let down by the quality of the firmware support. When it works it's great, but lots of users on Geekzone have reported issues with auto rebooting since version 3.18 (maybe earlier?) - 2 years +. Versions 3.20 and 3.21 have been released, but they seem to have stability issues - becomes sluggish to use after 4-5 days, so you need to reboot it anyway. v3.21 introduced an issue with the HDD spinning even when in standby, etc. See other threads for details. Would be great to have a real fix for these issues. Ideally, would love to have the subtle features added in the v6 releases to be working reliably. The program naming fix has worked after the EPG data changed format.

I compare it with a older Panasonic unit I have - it just works! It too had issues with the new style of EPG data - Panasonic released a new firmware version and it continues to work.

I think best thing I can say is don't try and support a CAM in any of your products ever again!

I have a T1020 and had it for a few years. The first one a have had to be returned back because of a major overheating issue, the case got very, very hot. Too hot to handle.

  • For some unknown reason the PRIME channel has always had lip sync issue.
  • The EPG page takes for ages to load.
  • When skipping through the channels the EPG information does along the bottom of the screen does not reflect the channel being shown. You have to press the 'info' button just to see what is being currently shown. I hoped that the last Firmware upgrade would of fixed the issues.
  • Had problem with my T1020 and my WIFI router interfering with the picture being displayed, I had to replace the router.
  • About once a month I have to retune the channels because channels would just disappear, especially the +1 channels.
  • The USB PVR has never worked properly. Despite what hard drive I use I get a message "Waiting for Hard Drive" or somthing like that. I think I managed to use a USB flash drive once but the play back was very choppy, you could hear audio but only one frame about every few seconds.

Apart from that is works okay.

Hi jimbob79

It depends on your USB Flash drive, and how fast it can read media, for instance you are more likely be able to record and playback content with a USB from Noel Lemming or JBHIFI than a budget USB from The Warehouse or Trademe. We have implemented new technology which detects this when you plug in a USB device in newer units.

Yeah those warehouse transonic drives are terrible. SanDisk usb3 and you will be sweet and not much more than slow junk when you get one from pb tech.

Unbranded flash drives have been getting worse and worse as the price has had pressure put on it by cheap buyers. Ignorant parents getting them for their kids is the target market I think.

A lot of customers who call regarding the single tuner recordings being choppy, unplayable usually have unbranded budget flash drives, branded usb drives are becoming a lot cheaper.

We usually tell them it's unlikely a software issue but the USB device itself :-)

Ideas for future boxes? What do you want to see?
Of cause FreeviewPlus will be supported but what do you want in terms of online entertainment? Apps, weather, do you want compatibility with other services ? Remote recording. Ideas to start things off.....

I would like to see Netflix
Also I would like to be able to sort by programme/date so that they end up in alphabetical programme order and the programmes in date order. Tried everything to get this and it don't seem to happen.
I would also like to have a feature that would allow me to record on the +1 by default. Currently you set a programme to record and it will always take the "live" time. I want to force the +1 time sometimes to stop the end of other programmes being chopped.
Another nice feature would be if there was a database of recorded programmes, so that you did not end up with 2 or more copies of the same episode recorded. Try anything that repeats on +1 and watch it before it starts on +1 and bang you end up with a second copy. Or Fair Go is another example. Watch the Wednesday episode on Thursday and get it recorded again on Sunday.

I don't think we need the Weather, and other Apps - maybe if it had DLNA/UPnP that would allow me to play my music collection through it, or even videos from other devices in the house with DLNA/UPnP

Remote recording sound a wonderful idea.

I would like the idea of having a second DVB-T tuner for video over IP like the "SiliconDust HDHomeRun" product. Also a DLNA twonky server to stream the recorded content.

What I would like to see, NO Freeview certification.. or artificial limits put on what the software and hardware is "allowed" to do.

I am surprised there are still people who do watch Sattelite TV.

One further suggestion:  When looking at stuff recorded, rather than showing only Viewed/unviewed (but only one of our units even does this), it would be good to see a rough percentage of each item that had been viewed were this possible.
