Sideload means downloading the APK (Android executable) file from the internet and installing it outside the Play Store. Not recommened! I only did it for Neon. If the services you mentioned are pretty popular they may already have support for Google TV.

VLC is great, and yes it plays content off my network (NAS). I think you can use Kodi but I didnt need anything fancy just something that would play media off the network.

Thought that's what was involved. Thanks for reply. Now to wait for the NZ release.

Looks like Acorn TV is on there already - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFr7-k9dIoA&ab_channel=SimpleDeviceAdvice

Also to add, its not Google being difficult, like I mentioned Neon worked but was optimized for touch devices so navigating with the remote wasnt ideal. So its all about Google making sure you get a nice consistent experience.

Thats a pet peeve I have regarding older "Android TV Boxes", yes they run android, yes they have the play store and you can install any apps BUT the interaction sucked. Google TV apps are so nice to use with the remote.

Apologies for coming in late to this conversation. I purchased Smart VU SV11 a fortnight ago, to go with Series 6 Samsung TV. Everything seems to be working ok including Netflix, TVNZ on Demand, Freeview, Spark Sport... all except Sky Sport Now. After eventually figuring out how to connect to Sky Sport Now (my own naivety being the barrier!), while watching a programme on Sky Sport 4 over a week ago, it stopped working and this message appeared “Playback Error. An error occurred. Please check your network connection. UnknownError”. I have been trying to connect to it ever since, both through the TV and/or Smart VU, but the same message occurs. Sky Sport Now support are unable to identify the exact problem to date, except that it appears to be a device problem, not a connection problem, and have not offered any solutions yet. Anyone else experiencing this frustration? Any suggestions for a solution (besides buying a new TV or re-connecting the Sky satellite services) will be welcomed. Cheers.

Make sure the device is up-to-date and any apps are up-to-date as well. If it all fails, try a factory reset on the device.

Additional to this. Try each in turn.  Signing out and re-signing back in again, clear data / cache in app settings (this will also require you to re-login), uninstall app updates to factory and reapply update (this worked for me on the freeview app audio sync issues). And to rule out your network, try on a mobile connection (hotspot).

You could also try chromecast from your phone as a workaround if all else fails.

Question for those that have this unit - does your 'EPG' button (to the right of the home button) bring up an EPG?  According to the printed instructions it should, but it tries to install/launch a 'Live Channels' app.

@LGSAM did you find out if it does CEC?

My SV11 is our backup to the backup. The remote is generic and I have 3 boxes with the same Bluetooth control.

To use the Live TV (EPG) button a third party app is necessary.
For a suitable option Google "Live New Zealand IPTV Channels on Android TV".
I find Kodi and all the MH NZTV etc. addons so much easier to use.

I purchases the SV11 a few months ago (Harvey Normans for $128) when I knew TVNZ on Demand was leaving Freeview Plus. I've been very happy with it but a few days ago I noticed it seems to have developed a glitch. Every few minutes or so the picture will briefly disappear and reappear with a small loss of sound or the picture will flicker slightly. It is random and doesn't happen too often but enough for me to notice something has changed. Anyone else notice this? I've noticed it on TVNZ on Demand and TV3 Now. Also with just the main menu shown.

They've just done an update and now I can't figure out how to get the excess stuff off my screen - the promos for shows at the top and the massive customise screen option below. Initially, I had got rid of all this nonsense but now there doesn't seem to be an option with this latest update.

Yes general to all Android TVs I suspect. My Xiaomi Mi Box 3 has just done the same. Likewise haven't found any way to disable it.

A real pain in the butt. Thank you Google - not.

I have managed to revert back to the advert free version on my SV11, Xiaomi Mi Box S, DishTV A2 and MeCool KM2 boxes by uninstalling all updates of the system app "Android TV Home".
You can also update to the latest unadulterated version 2.13xxx if desired. Google will find it.

Playstore Auto-updates must be disabled.

It works for me but I have no idea for how long.

Presume you'd have to change to a 3rd party launcher if you wanted to get rid of the recent advertising.
