what happens to the other 3 channells on uhf fta when analogue is turned off, ?

juice tv ,

triangle,

racing

Triangle is Stratos on Freeview as far as I am aware.

juice tv & racing/trackside is on the sky network, so those who have sky will still be able to get juice tv & racing/trackside.

Hey hey, that's good news. I didn't think i'd be hearing such a statement any time soon, let alone one which hints at it becoming a reality within a month.

On another note, anyone in the market for an Analogue TV tuner? ;)

Yes, well It was one of those things I shouldn't have really repeated. The conversation was about DVB-T when he let the Prime thing slip, so I am sure it will be on there, but I guess not DVB-S.

I'm in a DVB-T area, so I'll be stoked to see it on that platform.
The vast majority of people in a DVB-T reception area can already receive the analogue version of Prime though.

People in DVB-S only regions can definitely not receive any form of Prime TV, so really it needs to be on there if SKY want to up their viewer base of this channel.
Otherwise these people need to 'pay' $150 to get a second decoder tuned to Prime only, to view SKY's 'free' to air channel. It's still $150 regardless of whether the SKY tech needs to install a dish or not.

And to make it worse, they were really evasive when I asked about reselling the decoder that you have paid $150 for, one of the csr's tried to tell me that you had to give it back if you moved to a place where there was prime on UHF...

Yeah it's $150 to cover the cost of the install, so the decoder is still theirs. I asked if it was cheaper if they had to do no other work than plugging it all in as there was already a satellite installed, but no, same $150 rate applies to receive SKY's 'free' to air channel.

As discussed earlier in this post, if Sky want to broadcast Prime on DVB-S all they have to do is disable the encryption on their existing feed i.e. essentially free. The costs come in when they have to setup a new broadcast platform i.e. DVB-T.

So, one is hoping that Sky is not as daft as to just go for the DVB-T.

I agree with GF74. Sky simply need to turn off encryption of Prime TV like they have for TV1, TV2 and Maori TV as well as several radio stations on the appropriate transponders.

Past talk of spillage of Prime Sport in particular from the NZ beam to other areas breaching copyright is just an excuse as TV1 and TV2 etc would also suffer from the same copyrighted Sport spillage as Prime and does not appear to be an issue.

Is it really as simple as unencryption? I hope so, but is the Sky EPG compatible with the FreeView one? this may not matter to us, but if it is going to be in the FreeView brand then it needs to fit seamlessly in with the other stations.

That said if they are going to produce the EPG for DVB-T anyway we might be in luck.
