It sounds like shades of the old "Extra Terrestrial" freeview box of a year or two ago.

(See how many pages that got to!

Though at least (apparently) some people did have them working ok (I know one person who got a good one) and at least the menu was all set up for NZ.
I think they had some bad hardware batches - or maybe it was they had one good hardware batch and the rest were bad :-(

I would say from the problems people are reporting here just send them back immediately. They need to know they are problem units....

Where these sent from 1-day directly , or were they drop shipped directly from the manufacturer/retailer? You can tell from the sender details. From products I have purchased in the past from 1-day, some are sent from 1day who is selling them, and others they sell on behalf of other retailers, who send them to you directly. There was a good story about 1 day deal websites on radio NZ on saturday, with Shelden who runs one of the deal comparison websites. Was an interesting listen.

What was their conclusion?

It would appear to have come from 1-Day.

Don't have it in front of me but the return address on the courier bag (which was a 1-Day courier bag) was to a 1-Day Warehouse address I believe!! Somewhere in Hamilton??

with CHIPSET: MSD7823

guess i will have to decide if i want to send it back or crack it open and play with it....

If you decide to play, let us know how you get on.
Hopefully there is a firmware update somewhere that resolves the issues.

OK, I also got a DVB-999 from 1-day. I've had all the stated problems. The unit crashes every 5 minutes or so. After a soft reboot no there is a 'no signal' error which is only resolved by a hard reboot (ie turning it off at the wall).

The picture is very good, but frequently there is a mismatch between the sound & picture (out of sync).

When recording it only works for a few minutes before an error occurs & the USB drive is dismounted. The USB drive will spontaneously dismount then mount a few times before each full crash.

Also the recorded picture usually has a low frame rate. I get anywhere from 1 to 10 frames per second judging my the look of the resultant file. Of course I can not recored more than 2 or 3 minutes of footage before the unit crashes anyway.

Mine is going to be sent back.

That's a +1 from me too. Haven't tried recording. Have set country to England and got it working with sporadic crashes, sometimes within 2 minutes, other times longer (but never more than 5 minutes). I will be sending it back assuming no-one comes up with a cunning fix on this thread in the next day or so!

Shame 1-Day aren't on here with some kind of response. Would be good for their reputation.

Same problems here - audio out of sync and the unit crashes if you use any menus (promptly losing all the tuning information so it has to do a rescan).
Definitely a disappointment as the picture itself looks really good!

I just had a chat with Kristian from 1-day. They have a live chat function on their web site where you can chat live with one of their 'friendly Customer Service staff'. She told me that she was 'unable to assist with this query right now' and suggested I email them so they could deal with it later.

mmm..

Sounds like a stock response she's been trained to give when she hasn't a clue what's going on (or has been told there is no clear decision on what's to be done)

I 'live chatted' with Kristian earlier and was told to contact them via email

warranties@cs.1-day.co.nz

However I went via the contact page and selected warranties that way. If I get no joy from that I will email directly!!

Haven't noticed ours crash during normal tv so far (although we've only used it for 5-10 minutes max to test) It does however crash if you press several of the remote buttons in a 'hey do something you stupid remote' kinda way. Reboots itself then doesn't find any channels unless you turn it off and back on again.

Its a shame because the 3 minute test recording I did turned out really well and the file format plays back nicely on VLC.

Also, had to setup using UK as the region but for some reason it has detected the TVNZ and TV3/C4 channels but no radio stations, Prime or Maori TV. Anyone else noticed these missing?
