injuised: unless ive missed something, because the epg is MHEG-5 it doesnt show any of the oz channels therefore no timer recording or series link

No its not that, it has EIT EPG support, I can't remember what button from when I was testing it but you can bring the EIT schedule up. Perhaps it is via the menu not a preset button?

But I think the Oz channels only broadcast the Now & Next EIT EPG information (if at all), so you have to use timer recordings for them, there is no long range EPG. And of course as injuised pointed out, they have no MHEG-5, which is what gives series linking, so none of that for the Oz channels, although weekly timer will do the same.

injuised: How is the timer record function (or manual record/timer)? Passable for when needing to record the Oz channels?

Aha if all else fails try reading the user manual. On page 14 of the pdf version it has the EIT EPG. It is called ESG and is accessed via the Main Menu.

Evening All,
got my PVR tonight from our good friends at Bond & Bond.
Alas, something is amiss, explanation as follows, apologies if terminology not quite right, this is not really my field:
Anyway straight out the box, the machine scampers off and hunts out the freeview channels, except in my case has no signal on the 12483h transponder, it did however find all the channels on 12456h transponder, but they are all pretty jumpy. Signal strength at 83% and quality at a meagre 10% jumping occasionally to 30%. Dish has been on the house in unused state for goodness knows how long - any suggestions on diagnosing the problem will be greatly appreciated. One last thing - i dialled in 12648V transponder manually to look for sbs - again absolutely no signal whatsoever.
Stuffed LNB? water in the cable, birds nest in the dish???

Mac2008: Go!, Ch9, and GEM all provide an ~8 day EPG, by EIT I presume. I have no problems setting timers on my Vu+ Duo for them (although I'm not sure if the GEM(?) times are always accurate - I never catch the beginning of Reno 911).

GWF: Check/tweak dish alignment and LNB skew, inspect cable and connectors for any corrosion or possibility of water entry, identify if there are any splitters or similar in the coax that may be weak spots. I'm going through much the same process on behalf of a friend, and the current issue is looking like a dying LNB.

thanks for that xarqi it was the LNB skew that did the trick 80%+ on both strength & quality now on all transponders - 23 channels tuned - crystal clear.

As to the 8 day EPG - it is not working at all on the freeview channels - tried returning to factory settings & retuning still no joy - it does have the current & next programme info but no 8 day epg. More homework, any ideas anyone?

The ESG on this machine is for non freeview channels and is also limited to now and next information - no 8 day service unfortunately.

Initial comments on this machine is yes, if your dish is all sweet, it will pretty much set itself up giving you all the freeview and the extra aussie channels without even having to think about it - which i think is a quantum leap from whats been on the market previously.

However, if there are any glitches and you need to resort to the instruction manual you will be scratching your head, the inference is that you obviously have some "kop on" if you bought this machine in the first instance and will work a lot of this stuff out - which is probably fair enough in most cases but there still seems to be a gap in the information presented and what you would normally get with your average piece of high street electronics - and i think thats why there is still a lot of confusion out there about freeview.

As i said above i need to go and poke around for an answer as to why i dont have the mheg epg perhaps INJUISED would know? - you sound like a switched on installer type fella.

Will get back to you with my opinions of recording & such when i get the above sorted

All MyFreeview certified recorders should be able to handle the MHEG-5 EPG on all Freeview channels. Which channels is it not working on? Have you installed the latest firmware?

yes latest firmware installed.

epg isnt working on any channels only now and next info is available. pressing the epg button recieves no response

am wondering is the epg tuned inherently with each channel or is it tuned as a seperate entity, should it be identified as a seperate service on the 2 freeview transponders?

just thinking out loud - any ideas appreciated

The EPG can only be populated when the tuner is tuned to the transponder for the service. That may mean that after a restart, full information is not available until every transponder being used has been tuned in for a brief period. That may account for some of the missing data.

well, time will tell on that one xarqi, been returned to factory setting just before lunch & retuned from scratch shortly thereafter & still no epg at now 637pm? seems too long

another puzzler, am currently recording the dukes of hazard from GO! (purely for testing purposes you understand!) and it will only let me watch the sbs & nine feeds -selecting other channels creates the prompt "operation not allowed". I have used a loop through cable between the the two LNB inputs and assumed that allowed me to record or watch 2 channels off different transponders at the same time - more homework!!

Loop-through will allow the two tuners to access streams on different transponders, provided they have the same polarisation. I haven't checked, but I'd guess Go, Gem, and CH9 are V-pol, the same as the SBS broadcasts. If you want to get H and V pol signals simultaneously, you'll need a dual output LNB and separate cables to each tuner.

Xarqi: Thanks for that correction. I must confess I had foolishly thrown those channels in with other Oz channels that do not provide the 8 day EIT data. I was not aware of those channels providing it. That is good news if gwf can get the ESG working on the S7090.

gwf: When you are viewing the ESG on non-Freeview channels, try pressing other buttons on the remote - info, coloured buttons etc. Usually satellite EIT EPGs can be changed to view as Now/Next (like in the user manual screen shot) and as a standard multi-day EPG. Perhaps they have just failed to list that option in the manual?

I have a full 8 day EPG on SBS HD/One and TWO also. I guess it's just barely possible that some cunning plug-in on the VU+ is grabbing the data from the internet, but I believe that the only EPG I'm using is that being broadcast, be it for Freeview, Sky (I can see the EPG even though I don't subscribe), SBS, or Ch9; I have ~8 days for all.

Yes just checked Lyngsat (12398 V). Your idea is great with the dual output LNB, it is becoming almost essential now with more channel options available on V & H. But remember that with the current firmware it doesn't have full functions to split the tuners like that. Specifically it doesn't have the software to split the LNB voltage.

I have talked to the guys at DishTV about that, and it has been released primarily as a Freeview receiver, with enough features to allow us to tune in and view/record other channels as well.

Now it is released they intend to keep working on the software to add full functionality with the fully independent split tuners - making the whole dual output LNB system viable. However this is a lot more software development because they have built it from the ground up, but they are already working on it.

Probably if this forum can come up with a "bugs and needed features list", DishTV might include them in an update?

Wow! I have been missing out. Lets put that on the needed list for this model then. If gwf can't get 8 days on the ESG on the S7090 after having a play around with it, it might be an idea to send an email to DishTV and ask why the VU+ can.
