pc: will the new version be available as an over the air update?
Yes apparently either the current version or a newer release will be done OTA in the next few weeks or so. So if you are not a USB updater, you will still get the update via OTA.

Ummm..yip it did for me...deleted the entire booking list and I only updated in the last hour...so if you want to avoid the wrath of the woman in your life.. re-series link Coro and Shortie :)
I assume it did this to fresh start the links...I've a a few issues lately with non-recording, or series that are linked not being identified in the booking list (awaiting info status) when there is clearly an episode on the EPG coming up....a simple delete and re-link fixed this, but hopefully the new firmware resolves this...
also have had a few issues with double recording (omnibus stuff etc) ..so hopefully this will also sort this out...
each firmware has made the unit more and more stable.....but like commented before , kinda sucks being a consumer beta tester :)

On the recording issues: I remember back when the DTRs first came out there was a lot of this happening, this forum probably still has a topic on it somewhere. It came to light that each broadcaster enters in the details for the series linking - by hand - Freeview doesn't do it and it isn't entered automatically from any digital media received by the broadcasters. So back then the problems with recording omnibus stuff, series links that drop out, came down to manually entered data that was slightly different in the Mheg5 ID lines. So if this problem is still happening randomly it may be caused by the same problem, and so never fixed by new firmware. Just a point to keep in mind.

Hey smelck and gwf: just doing an experiment. What version did you update from? Can you recall the exact version? Or even do you think it was quite recent or a few versions back?
The only things I noticed with today's update...... they have now included a windows un-packer version (which helpfully extracts) as well as the normal zipped format ..... this version (like 1.35) has 2 files....when installing this it showed as 1.35/1.40...

Will try it now, although I have had some issues with 1.40....some random recordings with 00000 time stamps that I can't appear to delete...any one else having these problems....
^When I updated to 1.41 on my S7090 I also had those 00000-entries; I think refreshing the library, e.g. by date then back to by name, got rid of them. They're gone now anyway. In fact, when I updated to 1.41 I got back at least 16 shows which, at the time, I thought had not recorded, i.e. they were nowhere to be found in the library. Some of these were 8+ months old.
So, as I said I'm now on 1.41, but some persistent problems still remain:
1. When recording (mainly) back-to-back programmes it can fail to record the second show. An example would be recording The Walking Dead and then Nikita. Last night I stuck around for the shift over and when Nikita started I went into the library and it said it was recording at the top but there was no red record-button next to the name at the top. When I tried to cancel it and start again it froze a few times and took me 10 minutes to get it sorted. I've missed the end of The Walking Dead a few times now (as well as not getting Nikita at all).
2. I can't get rid of/fix the 'LCN has changed' message, which started to appear a lot after 1.41; I do not think this is much of a problem though?
3. Now there is a 'HDD/USB can not be recognised(?)' message flashing up from time to time; I forgot the exact wording.
4. A show yesterday 'taped' and shows a running length of 56 mins. in the entry, but when you go to watch it, it instantly says 'Playback has ended' - nothing there.
5. Sometimes you just have to check that the programme is actually recording at all; it will say that it has successfully started, but sometimes when you go to the library it's not recording, so you have to go to the recording page, cancel it (save it or not) and then start recording it again.
Sorry for long post, but I've looked everywhere for some similar experiences. The firmware updates are helping, but it's still very frustrating to know that there is a good chance a show, esp. back-to-back, won't record and that you'll not only miss the end of the first show (that's mainly the fault of the mopes who run the actual channels), but not even get the second.
So, any thoughts or advice, etc.? I tried re-loading 1.41 to see if I could get my phantom recordings back, but no luck. Before I try anything drastic, I guess I'd like to know I'm not alone, heh.

Nope...you're not alone....
I've not had the 0000 entries since 1.41
The LCN has changed message has started since the new firmware and appears to be some form of fix they have implemented (a more technically minded forum member may be able to elaborate on what this actually means)
I also have had the "playback has ended" issue but this happened with 1.40 ...It happened when I had a lot of back to back recording going on... like you they show on library with correct duration stamp but would not play....This happened when I had a lot of back to back recordings going on (damn Monday nights!!) and I speculated at the time it was linked to stopping one of the final shows recording??? - hasn't happened since...
In short for me as a PVR it has been generally ok but has had some very random bugs that crop up which render any sense of assured reliability mute....each firmware seems to both solve and reintroduce problems......but like many will comment some of the issues are also linked to manual EPG entry issues which confuse recordings...
Back to back recordings have become more reliable with each firmware update...have you tried adjusting your time start/end settings....also be aware that if you have a lot of back to back stuff going on it will cut off to start another scheduled recording...often I'll find that if I have a back to back on the same channel (with another recording starting on another channel) I can catch the end of a programme on the start of the subsequent recording.....as it can only record 2 consecutive shows it tends to make compromises with the start and stop
So..again..you're not alone, it's not great and tbh others have commented that many DVB-S PVR recorders have similar idiosyncracies, and it sucks to be consumer testers.....
hopefully they continue to support it with firmware and reliability improves....until then I live with the 80% reliability I have and suck up the odd weird unexplained foible...

A couple of quick follow up questions, though:
- How do you adjust your start/end times? And what would this achieve re: back-to-back recordings? Did it 'solve' anything for you?
- Yeah, I do go to another recording to catch the end of some shows and even though you lose a few seconds, I'm cool with that. The problem is when that next show doesn't record and you lose both the ending and the next show.
And you're right that, e.g., The Walking Dead + Nikita back-to-back also had another program taping on another channel. Sometimes, though, it can just be the back-to-backs with nothing else and I don't get the second show.
Hi, I have been working with Dish TV for a while to solve a particular problem we have in that my Lovely Lady has a severe hearing defect and we must have subtitles, and be able to record subtitles. They have been amazing, and the 1.41 firmware has solved all our problems. However when we do consecutive and concurrent recordings they do not all go straight away into the library. They are all in Connectivity-Media Center-Hard Drive, and can be got there, although they don't have subtitles. They also refresh in the Library when the Unit is next started, complete with subtitles, so we are very, very happy. I have been told that this issue will be solved in the next firmware due out very soon.
Thanks guys your comments are both helpful and encouraging regarding the S7090. I'm discovering a few gliches with this machine. A couple of times I've been watching channel 3 and suddenly it's on channel 1; I can't figure that out! Only once have I had trouble with back to back recording. The hard drive is supposed to be expandable through the USB port yet there doesn't seem to be an option for saving programs to USB. The manual doesn't seem to give much info on it. I haven't got a USB hard drive connected (I don't want to buy one if it's not going to work), has anyone any input on that? Start times etc are changed in Menu/User Settings/ User Preference ...... I would be reluctant to fiddle with those but I'm interested in hearing if it helped the back to back problems. Thanks again. ps I still love my S7090
