pete9321: with advent of TVNZ's new mheg5, only existing certified freeview importers are being allowed access to the new stream and specs.
One would wonder if this could fall into the market control area...interesting for the commerce commission...!!
Units without the new mheg5 will not have proper PVR features....If no mheg5, like the vantage...then its a very micky mouse unit...!!
Why would the commerce commission care?
You say that "only certified importers are allowed access to the specs" which is incorect. MHEG5 is an open protocol and anybody can access to the Freeview implimentation. In reality those that apply for the specs and then design units that are compliant with thes specs become certified. If you don't you won't gain Freeview certification.

None of the receivers I have tried is perfect. Zinwells / DSE receivers run very Hot about 17watts on. This forum for feedback on the Extra Terrestrail runs a cool 7watts on and is the greenest machine in this respect. ET has a channel display, Zinwells do not. The technology specs and promises on all receivers is trying to keep up with everyones expectations. In the first year of of implimentation of HD worldwide, there are going to be warts for the broadcasters to the consumer product. Satellite receivers with MPEG2 have been around for a long time now, and the technology relatively sorted and wart free.
