My TV native resolution is 1920x1080. I have tried playing 4 movies through media center (movie file dimensions are 1026x592, 1014x432, 777x576 and 751x320) so a mixture of ratios. The displayed image is ALWAYS 3/4 of the screen width in my tests. The height varies from full screen height to something smaller, but never in any recognizable ratio. I plugged my laptop into the HDMI port and the NVidia Control Center correctly reports the screen dimensions as 1920x1080; I've checked the settings on the Dish are 1920p50. So somewhere along the line the Dish is deciding it only has 3/4 of the actual pixel width to play with (call me suspicious but 3/4 is strangely similar to the old 4:3 TV ratio - maybe not related at all, but coincidences are strange things!)

Whichever way you look at it though, this alleged correction of previously incorrect displayed aspect ratios just doesn't make sense, the aspect ratio of images being displayed now is VERY WRONG and it would be great if an urgent fix was released, even if that fix was to back out the changes just made until a future release gets it right.

Hi Guys,

I have sent in the issue regarding the aspect ratio and it is been looked into now, The double press issue should be sorted in the next software. Most of the updates are forced to make sure new units from stores get up to date as soon as possible so users can't turn them off.

a response about downgrading firmware would be much apreciated because the guys at the disttv support email dont seem like they are going to be much help due to the tone of their response seeming to indicate i wasnt having an issue

This is what i replied to Dishtv with

Attached are 2 images of the same file being played via UPnP, The first image is set to fit to screen and there is a huge black box around the clip, its dimensions are 720x404pixels (so a scaled down 1080p size there is no black box around the image on the original copy. The second image is with is set to actual size. tell me you would be happy watching that? I don’t know many who would be.

watching something 730-830 on tv3, it finishes, i want to record the series starting next week, try to go to next week in the EPG, not there only goes to sat next week. cant record it there, use the red button, find it there hit record, it says cannot record you may already habe a recording scheduled for this time slot. I have NOTHING set to record on sunday at all, so why can i not set it to record?

i went to tv3+1 and was able to set it to record for next week. which is crap as how are people to know to do that?

So, I have good news and bad news about my ongoing issues getting the recorder to record and offset reliably.

The good news is that I've had about 3 weeks now of near perfect recording, with neither a hitch nor a glitch in sight. Everything I've done has been perfect and I've recorded a whole heap of offsets without the slightest challenge.

The bad news is that I've been doing all of this on my old Magic TV 3600. My T2200 was sent down to Hamilton and was returned almost immediately with a note saying it all tests perfectly (clearly it was all in my head). It therefore remains dumped in a box next to my TV in abject disgrace and will remain there until I have some indication that there's a software update that might actually fix my problems (the latest update doesn't fill me with confidence given what people are saying about it).

im loving the punch line , not loving your issues . is there a way to do a firmware rebuild from the latest update i wonder ? a full on defcon 5 slash and burn of the entire system back to factory default settings but with the latest firmware ?

Hmm, about to go Freeview Terrestrial. Was looking at the T2200.

Just remembered I gave my father a MTV3600, and they have moved house to a satellite only area - called him up and it is there at his place waiting for me to repossess.

Sounds like the way to go from the above posts.

Every case is different, different problems lead to different things and usually are led to signal reception and line of sight. I am working around the clock to try and get these issues reported to the right teams, we have installed a new system to enable reliable and up to date info so I am aware on what's happening (Where as before information was lost on their way to me)

Although customers are reporting the issues, they have been received by us and we do work on improving, some other companies are a lot harder to reach and usually have a strict view on reaching their customers for issue reporting.

if the reports of some of this stuff has gone astray, do you think it wise to start from page one of this thread and tick off the resolved issues and add the unresolved ones to your new process Josh , some issues just keep coming up . I have a magictv3600 but frankly it uses 60x the power on standby and 3x the power in use so its not coming out of the dark ages any time soon. Many of you will well know my workarounds by now to make the box acceptable which helps keep the MTV redundant, the primary one being the replaced remote.

That might be very wise, I will look into it as I will need to go through the other threads too, so far the T2200 is the most talked about.

Josh, I've already provided you with the serial number via a personal message on this forum (it was the first message I sent you). I've also provided you with recording properties for several shows that have gone to pot, and you had the recorder there with one of those shows on so it could be looked at. I'll think about hooking it back up again at some point but I'm frankly a bit sick of the disruption and aggravation it causes.

All of the symptoms (struggling to offset, randomly going bad during a recording then clearing up again, being bad immediately after using On-Demand, going bad while just watching normal TV and then clearing up after I pull the plug and restart etc) point to a more fundamental issue than "It's your reception" which I think I've fairly conclusively proven is absolutely fine. The symptoms point to the box getting overwhelmed at a resource level (either CPU or Memory) and therefore struggling to perform. I'm sure that I'm a heavy user, we don't watch virtually anything real-time and we record a lot, so perhaps it's time your staff did a real stress-test on a box and see how it actually copes. I'm pretty sure it wont.

i have said something similar about the processor before however, less cumbersome software written from the ground up could make better use of the same hardware too .
