Hi team

We have moved into a new house and have UFB and a sky Sat on the roof.

We stream everything, 10 laptops/pc's and 10 phones/pads etc, plus 4 smart Tv's.

Disney, Netflix, emby and amazon prime but no sky tv and freeview.

I would like to install a multi channel decoder in the network cabinet so the whole house can access freeview as I do not want to get three decoders for the TV's for example...

Any suggestions on how to set up our house so everyone can do their own thing much appreciated...

TIA

Another option is a SatIP unit for DVB-S or an HDHomerun for DVB-T both of which then can act as a network tuner to a tvheadend source and that can then act as a central recording place for Kodi or other software.

I currently use a triax unit I picked up from Ebay and it has 4 tuners but only requires one cable connected; TVheadend picks up all the inputs and can record/stream from all four at once... I limit it to one stream per tuner to avoid issues with my Sky configuration but it works well... Kodi has a nice enough interface and with the latest version of tvheadend I can get series recording etc. enabled.

You could also go for Vodafone TVs with their cloud recording function to share across the boxes and just use your internet connection.

One option is an HDHomeRun DVB-T (terrestrial) TV tuner. Can live stream to VLC and Kodi. Streaming to VLC is particularly simple - no configuration is required. Can also stream to DVR devices. I have an HDHomeRun Connect Quatro. Works well.

Another option is a VBox Android TV Gateway. DVB-T (terrestrial) and DVB-S (satellite) models available. Can stream to VLC and Kodi. Can also function as a DVR, recording to external USB drive or NAS. Specs look good and the few reviews I found are positive.

@ AlickW

We have found a UHF aerial inside the roof! not on the roof but inside the attic... strangely...

Anyway will it make any difference to a sat dish?

Also are you recommending "HDHomeRun Connect Quatro" used in conjunction with Kodi software or a box?

Thanks Heaps

Hi, as this is off-topic and ongoing, I've posted a reply in new topic "Freeview tuners and DVRs".

Earlier this year my elderly mother's old Dish TV box died.

I bought her a DishTV superbox as a replacement followed a couple of days later by a new Samsung 32" HD TV because the HDMI connection on her old TV couldn't cope with the data rate of HDTV.

She has no complaints about the picture quality and she has got used to the navigation on the newer Freeview box, but has been complaining to me that almost every time she turns the TV off it turns itself on again within two or three minutes. I have made sure that she uses the DishTV remote to turn the box off first before turning off the TV, but that doesn't stop the TV turning on again. It's not her technique because it does it for others too.

Any ideas what this could be due to? It's not turning on because of scheduled recordings starting, it's simply switching on again shortly after being turned off.

You will have CEC turned on...not close to mine so cant tell you where the setting is but something like picture format...turn of CEC or switch off Anynet+ on your TV.

Had same problem after all set. My Fix is pull out HDMI cable from box, wait 15 seconds and plug back in.  TV reconfigures and it stops the restarting.

Cheers

My unit has been turn on for a few days and just sitting there not being used.

I go to use it today and its doing a boot loop.

Unplug power for 30 sec

Plug back in

Freeview screen comes up

Then the android screen

Then the media scanning

Comes up and says there was an update applied click continue

Remote doesn’t respond so cant click on OK

Left it 10sec and it starts back at the android screen

Then media scanning

And continues in the loop.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

How to do manual restore?

Power cycle doesn't resolve it

Netflix works on these with a few caveats... (a certain version & an air mouse).

I bought 2 of these as they seemed to be the best alternative to my many family tivo's. (with the bonus of working on Satellite too!)

I've been testing them for a few weeks now, and find them awesome.

Yes, a few small glitches but i've not had to restart them to fix any fault yet.

I did restart one for curiosity, and found you must then re-login to "watch on demand" and "Sky sport" which is annoying.

Slight delay in the bluetooth remote takes a bit of getting used to (2-3secs on wakeup).

But all-in-all i will likely buy more of these for my family/parents as I think they are the best all round boxes out there.

It's even GREAT how modifiable the Andriod TV User Interface is. And no need for a smart TV.

I can probably ditch my Firestick now that this does everything i need, especially YouTube & PLEX for the kids.

Like Sgt Schultz says... I know nothing.... nooothing....

I hope it fixes stuff, lets me use Netflix on the box and offers remote garage door opening functionality :)

will I installed it...must have been a cat in a previous life.

No issues so far except it changed to SDR instead of HDR10 output. Did not notice any other settings get changed.

Wonder if they sorted that restart issue - probably not.

Oh that would be good if they did, that one had been the big ongoing niggle with this unit.

My wife grumbles every time we do the forced reboot thing.
