joshhill96: FreeviewPlus isn't an app, you use your remote control to control everything on screen..

Does it need an antenna connection to get it started or is it fully online?

Ah, You will need to be in the Freeview|HD coverage area in order to receive FreeviewPlus

That's a shame given the number of Freeview DTH viewers out there with a reasonable internet connection.

Or people who have sky and those who just have never bothered with an antenna.

Stepdoh: Just to confirm, the T1050 wont be supporting the service (even though streaming services such as World TV work fine on it)?

I will find out for you Stepdoh

Hi Stepdoh, No the T1050 will not support HBBTV. Most Non-HBBTV Freeview Receivers with internet connected will have access to World Net TV and other data channels but not FreeviewPlus.

Thanks

Some info here on it. The Aussies have it already. Its pretty much NZ Freeview just following to the new standard, as used in Europe and Australia. Taking over from the outdated mheg

The HbbTV AIT (application information table) is live in TVNZ's transport stream here.

There are currently 2 applications.

"TVNZ MAINAPP" points here:
http://hbbtvstagingtvnz-anz.appglobe.accedo.tv/
http://hbbtvstagingtvnz-anz.appglobe.accedo.tv/main.html

"EPG LAUNCHER" points here:
http://test.fvpnz.co.nz/app/latest/
http://test.fvpnz.co.nz/app/latest/index.html

I haven't had much luck browsing those pages in Firefox. Tried installing this add-on to get <object> element support:
https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/firehbbtv/

...but so far it hasn't seemed to help much. I'd be interested to hear results from anybody else. :)

Have just seen my Samsung ES 8000 has a firmware online update from version 1028.1 to 1029. I wonder if this is getting things ready for Freeview Plus support? Nothing obvious noticed as yet and no activate DATA option listed in support menus. As seen for overseas models

http://test.fvpnz.co.nz/app/latest/index.html Works on my firefox setup. Interestingly it loads up a page which has French TV channels listed as options. Choosing any of them does nothing to the screen however.

I think those channels come from the Fire TV plugin.

Yeah, I figured that out a few minutes ago. Didn't realise how it all worked initially. Hbbtv sure seems like a step in the right direction.

I think its the wrong direction. We were looking like fully ethernet delivered content. Then this comes along which needs a broadcast carrier signal be piped to the TV inorder to initiate this.

Perhaps if you can put a URL into a TV/Stb that is online but not connected to a piece of wire to the roof and get the same access to content then it would be passable, but IMO the model of apps delivered over the internet is a better one other than the guide being split up. If each app was able to deliver its guide data to the freeview EPG, or they collated it into a single app that then would spawn the broadcasters app when you choose a program it would be better IMO.

You're right, that does sound like a much better option. Essentially all that Freeview becomes is an EPG provider, and maybe a channel streaming service for smaller channels, at which point it would surely become a paid service due to bandwidth requirements over the internet for the channel streaming. I have no idea how much they paid for the TV spectrum and other ongoing costs so it might come out cost neutral to stream rather than broadcast.
