Journeyman: I think you're having comprehension difficulties. I'm saying it's fine for either TVNZ or Sky to compete. What you quoted is nothing at all like what you're claiming I said.

No comprehension issues, quote speaks for itself, that is what you said, hence it's called a quote

Yeah, I'm with Journeyman on this one.

The way I read the quoted sentence, he was simply saying that from TVNZ's perspective Sky may be seen as a competitor, and that perspective may have influenced the decision to not put the popup channel on the satellite. It didn't read as a personal bias. Even if there was personal bias it wouldn't particularly bother me, because everybody is entitled to hold their own opinions.

I'm not going to play your game since it seems like you're just trolling over semantics at this point. I've made it clear what my position is and I'm not resorting to breaking out the finger puppets to explain it to somebody who doesn't want to listen.

I note that you've completely ignored the part where I said it's possible that the contract between TVNZ and Wimbledon may well prevent the pop-up channel being available to a pay tv operator. BUt hey, whatever suits your narrative I guess.

No, I'm not playing games. I'm not using marginalising statements in order to get the upper hand, as you are. This is supposed to be a discussion. Trolling? This is a discussion, and I put my views forward, but you seem to take offence, and react.

Off course I read the comment re Wimbledon and pay tv. that's not relevant. The sole point I made is that it appears ok for TVNZ to compete, but when its Sky, its different. Its monopolistic, and so on. I've got Sky, and its going, I'm not bothered. But if its ok for TVNZ to compete, its the same for Sky, thats my point. But if Sky had it, its a problem.  We can agree to disagree, our points have been made.

I've never said that it's not okay for Sky to compete. My point was quite the opposite. Those that can read have understood that. You're the only one looking for an argument.

I just got up, as they finished. I hear Djokerman was great?  Murray seems in great form, thats my final. He's playing with aggression a lot more now. If its close, I can see him holding his nerve better, nothing to lose.

Prediction: Federer, but it really could go either way.
He's playing so well. To beat Murray like that, and with his form through the tournament...
The tennis really has been spectacular at times.

Ill favour Djokovic. I haven't seen his other matches, but in last nights, I did see a number of Fedex shot that were way off target, for him. Murray wasn't the aggressor I thought he would be, so I'll drop some favour for Federer on that. But, Djokovic will fight, but he can waiver at times. I was impressed with Federer though. If it goes 5 sets its all Novak, due to age. If Roger gets the first set, he may well up the ante and go for the second all out, and out worry Novak.

mm1352000:
Is this TVNZ Sport Extra reincarnated?

It seems like it may be the return of that. Whether or not ads will be played on this channel - I'm not too sure. If not, suppose its the return of non-commercial TV broadcasting (a stretch, but one can be optimistic).

TVNZ Pop-Up (as of Thursday 27 August at 3:22pm)

Hopefully the extra channel stays around - there's plenty of options they can use when sport is not on - maybe play some movies, or do something like the old TVNZ Heartland channel for a free-to-air audience...

I suspect it may take a change in Government to prod TVNZ into something like this, but it is encouraging to see something other than TV1, TV2 and +1 channels.

I'm looking at what TVNZ sport rights do have and with the packages of FIBA World Basketball, Highlight Packages of the Bundesliga, Highlights and Match of the Day Live of the  EPL, Golf Highlights and One Sport News replays for 10 minutes TVNZ can develop and obtain a lot of FTA rights with the establishment of this channel and with the channel being on every platform (except SKY) there would be quite a large market reached with Freeview Satellite and Freeview HD viewers, although eventually I think SKY will have the channel on their line-up.

Here's hoping!

Sounds promising. An extra bonus would be a "TVNZ Classic" channel which would be a revamp of Heartland, only on a free platform.

Makes sense to me, as the content is already there in TVNZ archives.
