Fossie: Because the pirated version sometimes doesn't come with the most up to date files?

My 3.9.2 worked without changing any settings at all. Have you changed any of the audio settings?

i didnt change anything, i exactly follow your step. the sport extra is the only one have sound.

Ok the trial version of power dvd7 seems to work ok. It can decode the 720p and 576i channels. However, it does not support AAC audio (as far as I know), and it does not have support for hardware acceleration ("Leverage the power of your NVIDIA or ATI graphics card with support for hardware acceleration.").

My Media PC (p4 2.6gh/z, 1GB ram, 6600GT) could decode the 576i channels no problem, but would lag on the 720p channels.

Do you think having the delux version of power dvd (which supports hardware acceleration) would allow my media pc to decode the 720p channels ok?

I've installed DVBViewer Pro 3.9.2.0 yesterday. I tried before buying it with the TransEdit which had no problems finding channels with a Hauppage USB DVB-T 900 device.

DVBViewer finds the correct channels and even shows the current program EPG data - but then it stops with the following message:

"Cannot render mediafile/output pin, error: 0x80040200 (Specified media type is invalid)."

All working now! sbiddle just left (he came around to help with some cables) and after changing the renderer to VMR9 all worked fine. We get almost 100% signal and the picture and sound are great.

CPU usage is about 40% - 50% on this box (Apple Mac mini, 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).

Very happy now.

Hey Fossie - outstanding thread - its rolling toward a fantastic future here with DVB-T - we all appreciate your very helpful contributions.

I have a few questions that I dont think I've yet found the answers to with the bleeding edge here - not sure if you can answer them:

With an HTPC setup, we should be able to record programs? what will we be able to do with them, for example at the moment I have a standard PVR and I often get "I missed that program - can you get it for me" and me being oblivious to copyright laws say's "yes, I can spin a DVD for you no problem".

How is it going to work when DVB-T starts broadcasting?
Also, if we have sat 3 PS's in the house, will we be able to pass recorded HDTV between them without any restriction??

In regard to MP4 and DVD's, you'll have to use something such as Super to convert it from MPEG4 to MPEG2. You have to go through about 3 or 4 pages of rubbish, but it's freeware and is actually quite good. As far as I can see it contains no spyware or nasties. You do need to read the pages carefully, as it's a bit loborious trying to find the link to the right page.

I dont know as much as fossie but...
Recording i think it is the pretty much the same as with DVB-S or analogue. However HD broadcats are huge compared to SD, so when someone asks to spin a dvd, you're probably going to have to spin a blu-ray if its 1hr+ (hd-dvd is dead

), unless you burn as a data disc on a dvd. If you burn it as a file you could probably fit a 1hr recording on a single layer dvd, but that means it has to be played in a computer.
I think its around ~4gb per file @720p for 1hr judging by the samples, but its probably more, i just took 15s @ 16mb and multiplied.
Freeview has no encryption/DRM, so you could do what you want with it, if you ignore the legal stuff that is.

Also thats a great build, im looking at those exact specs for a gaming rig =/ though.
Anyone know if a Zalman CNPS 7500CU, P4 Northwood 3ghz, 1gb ram, ATI 9600XT 265mb + whatever HD will handle a HD stream? Two? (i hope)

Ok, with nero 8 i can view and hear the 576i samples (indiana jones trailer), but no audio on the 720p samples that use HE-AAC. I will go back to nero and ask when they will support such and advise again.

Any idea if mediaportal obeys it? If not , i hope myth continues to disobey the ICT flag, i'll switch straight away if thats the only one. Only problem is the card i will be using is an ATI 9600XT which doesnt go down well with linux.

I think you'll find all PC software will ignore this flag, except maybe MCE. All the common apps like GB-PVR, DVB Viewer, Media Portal, MythTV etc wont implement support for it.

With this in mind you really wonder why they bother implimenting ICT. It's prime purpose of trying to stop people recording and distributing of HD content is worthless when it doesn't actually work!

my experience hasn't been tooo flash..
i tried transedit and after a bit of mucking around it picked up all tvnz channels (although i tried again later and no luck)
tried mediaportal, it found nothing...
tried gbpvr and after about an hour of looking in the forums and changing settings i finally got a signal (i have a weird card Winfast DTV 1000T)

But the only channel i can pickup is sport extra now.
i get half a second of audio and a black screen.
but if i record the channel and playback in vlc i get lots of grey, weird compression type problems and full audio. I'm guessing its a codec problem .. any ideas?

weird compression stuff

i'm thinking maybe they took the other channels offline ?
anyone else having problems in christchurch?
