xarqi: I just noticed something else here: what's a "freeview only sky subscription"?
It sounds interesting to me - if I could get just the FTA stuff off Sky (in HD where available) for a nominal cost, I'd probably sign up.  I can't see anything on the Sky website though.
Any links?

Here it is.

Note that it's $18.29 per month, but no access to HD channels is provided :(

Bugger.

I just noticed that TVNZ6 and TVNZ7 aren't included either ... Double Bugger!

An amendment to the above post ... Sky's website has conflicting information in 2 different places regarding the "Decoder Rental" only option:

- In one place it lists the channels shown above i.e. TVNZ6/7 excluded;

- But in another place it says: This will give you the following channels:

  TV1, TV2, TV3, TVNZ 6 & 7,C4, Prime, Trackside & Maori TV.

Just to set the record straight...

Yep, that's the one I've got.  Hmmmm, food for thought -- thanks WiredR.

How many channels will it record at once? I see someone previously said 6 at a time?

Keeping in mind that *I'm STILL waiting for mine*, everything I've read in the main Vu+ forums indicates that the number of concurrent recording sessions possible depends on hard disc throughput and available tuners.  You couldn't, for instance, record things off three transponders/polarities concurrently, but if everything you want is coming off just two, it comes down to disc speed.  There is no built-in limit.

there is an extension called vlc player which should allow playing of these files from a pc via a network connection .
it will play divX avi from a external drive .

with this box watching sky channels with a blue card is a given but!
will a blue card from a non mysky account allow watching of tv one, tv2 and tv3 hd ? . i think so . this also means that the $18.29 basic free view only subscription with the mini Pace box will allow watching 1.2& 3 hd on the vu+ duo .
i have a multi room decoder ( pace ) and that card works in my Duo .
so for people who cant get dtt ie nelson, there is now a satellite option for tv1,2, & 3 in hd .

please correct me if i am wrong .

I haven't seen a definitive answer.  Grant K explored a bit above and concluded that there was no HD said to be available on the $19 plan (nor TVNZ6/7).  The Sky site is fairly opaque when it comes to detail.  Try to find a list of channels available on each plan!  All I could find was a bunch of miniscule logos.

But I digress.

I think what we need is for someone to experiment and report back.

Volunteers?
