Email from 1-day:

Good morning people

Here @1-day we are very concerned at the experience some of you are receiving from your recent purchase of the Freeview receiver.

We have received numerous emails from you asking about what can be done to make the unit work correctly. It is appears that some of the units are not being able to be set to the New Zealand setting, of course this will cause issues with the things like the length of time before the unit crashes and cosmetic things like the time.

We have contacted our suppliers to ask for a fix for this and have also employed a local electronic expert to assist with a solution. We have been advised that it looks like this a software issue.

We are very mindful that you would like the Freeview receiver to be working as advertised ASAP.

We ask that you please be patient with us while a solution to this can be tested and then conveyed,  this should be sometime today.  Please note our warranty team have received your email but may not have replied as yet due to us searching for a solution.

Your product is still covered with our 12 month warranty.

Warranty Policy
1-day’s warranty policy covers our products for 12 months from the purchase date. Warranty claims cover any fault, defect or failure occurring as a result of the manufacturing process

http://www.1-day.co.nz/content/termsConditions.html

As always the team @1-day appreciates your custom and your patience. We will keep you informed.

Nice of 1-Day to acknowledge this. If it's just the firmware (and not something overheating) that would be awesome.

I'm begnning to wonder if the buzzing in standby is supposed to be a reminder to turn it on for a scheduled recording!

Wade, thanks for the info and time you're putting in to finding a fix. In your emails to the manufacturer, has anything been mentioned about MHEG-5 EPG support? The EPG only displays a few hours like most HTPC software does. Also, was anything mentioned about being able have the unit power on and off based on a scheduled recording instead of the separate menu for power on/off time (it would be easy to forget about this). This may be being a bit picky considering the price but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Is that chip in the middle with the small heatsink the one that putting a larger heatsink on seems to improve things?

MHEG5 requires software licencing on the makers behalf.

For $70 it aint gunna happen. Not even on my Vantage @ $260

I too received the same generic fob-off email from 1-day as PeterRW on 5th Oct. Although they mentioned the fix was to be released on that day, I'm still waiting.

Interested to hear what feedback wadeb gets from China. Looks promising.
