DonnaRR: Thanks guys your comments are both helpful and encouraging regarding the S7090. I'm discovering a few gliches with this machine. A couple of times I've been watching channel 3 and suddenly it's on channel 1; I can't figure that out! Only once have I had trouble with back to back recording. The hard drive is supposed to be expandable through the USB port yet there doesn't seem to be an option for saving programs to USB. The manual doesn't seem to give much info on it. I haven't got a USB hard drive connected (I don't want to buy one if it's not going to work), has anyone any input on that? Start times etc are changed in Menu/User Settings/ User Preference ...... I would be reluctant to fiddle with those but I'm interested in hearing if it helped the back to back problems. Thanks again.

I still love mine too ..lol...although it does make me grumble at times. Like the above poster says they are slowly working through issues with subsequent firmware and its good to see them being supportive, although as I said being a consumer tester is a bummer...

Changing start and end times is pretty easy through the user preferences in the menu....I generally set mine to 2 mins pre and 5 minutes post...although as said this can cause some issues when you have back to back on one channel and another channel recording..i.e it will cut you short to start another as 2 is the max..

Regarding use of external usb/hdd recording/transfer....it's currently not supported although I am sure someone mentioned it was a feature they were going to add in later firmware....

Thanks to the above.

I had a look and my start/end times are set to 1 min and 5 min, which is fine/standard I guess.

I didn't know about the connectivity HDD area, so I had a look. Unfortunately it doesn't have any of my missing programs, like, for example, Person of Interest from Mon., which, although it said it was recording, has gone AWOL and can't be found.

Just a little update....... Last night I had the 6pm news set to record leading into both Campbell Live and Close up set to record..... Close up didn't record! grrrrr! It's funny though because sometimes I've recorded programs with the same time scenario and there hasn't been a problem; the first program cut off just as the credits started. Hopefully they will eventually solve this problem.

Hi Donna,
Have a look at my last post about the program being on the HDD, and refreshing when you reboot the unit. If you have the 1.41 firmware it should be there.

That doesn't do it for me, Bobp - some 'recordings' are just not to be found no matter what I've tried and I've tried that.

Thanks Bobp I've tried that but no Close up...... I definately have that update firmware. Now I'm wondering did I set it to record or didn't I... I'm sure I did! I thought I did! I'm going to keep an eye on it.

After using v1.41 for a while now, the system is pretty much worse/more unstable than it was. Now, in addition to the preexisting issues, there are numerous 'playback has ended' recordings as well as some that are just black screen. Some of these resolve themselves or reappear as actual recordings, but it's random and, so far, not 100% guaranteed.

Hope there's a new firmware version soon, though given the 'success' of the previous ones and the (re-)occurrence of errors I'm not convinced that whoever is in charge knows what they are doing.

Oh well, I've emailed them the problems I still encounter, so there's not much else for it.

Yeah, I'm in agreement.

This firmware (1.41) is very buggy. I've had a fair few random non records/blank playback has ended issues (that didn't resolve on a reboot) and the worst a media not alive issue that was only fixable by a re-format (crazy as it wouldn't read the drive to see what was on there but it could identify it to format it...and after worked as normal)

1.35 was a much more stable firmware.....like you say for every fix there are new issues introduced...

I'm very close to just returning it, but there isn't an abundance of choice in DVB-S PVR's and of the others issues are still present (although maybe not as many as in the 7090)

Personally as mentioned numerous time being a consumer tester sucks...but is bearable if you feel like you are going forward with stability and functionality..it appears we are not :(

Frankly I am amazed that Freeview endorse these products....

Hi All,
See a version 1.48 is now available via USB. Will have a look at the changelog but can't see it yet. Hope it solves our problems. I haven't had any issues for the last two weeks on recordings, altough some have not come into the library until restart.

The current release version is now v1.48. Modifications Done

Improved speed when changing sort order of recordings.
Added recovery mechanisms to correct "media not alive" problem and recording list mismatch between media center and library lists.
Recall key function changed to only activate after continuously holding the exit key
Continuously pressing the Library key now takes you directly to the Booked List.

Problems Solved

No audio/video problem occurred when perform recording an encrypted service and switched to FTA Service

OK, so I went ahead and loaded v1.48 and I'll say what happened as a warning to others:

Upon loading going into the library came up with a corrupted and repairing message. When the library could be loaded I had 8 programs left from 120+. The HD in use is still showing the original amount (40% odd free), but I can't find the other programs anywhere yet.

I'm going to re-load v1.41 and see if they come back. I'll report when I've done that. If they don't I'm going to be pissed.

Crikey...that bodes well, let us know if it resolves itself with the earlier firmware. If it doesn't that is just really poor and I feel your pain having done a reformat recently (due to the media not alive issue) and losing a truckload of unwatched programs...

Do they not QA test these before release??? ....me thinks not judging by past performance...

It would be good if someone from Dish TV (who may frequent these forums), or anyone with some knowledge in these areas could explain what the difficulty is in getting a reasonably reliable firmware version....

No luck with re-loading either 1.41 or 1.35. Still only 8 shows in the library and media centre. And, since there's 50%+ of the HDD used up, I guess a reformat is the only course to take, especially with so few shows currently left.
