You've made my day. I never get through anything uninterrupted (the joys of parenthood). How did I not know this? LOL.

Awesome - you have this unit too?

Had any problems with the screen blanking out as posted here?

I have the 840GZ, which was the top of the line of the previous range. No problems with the screen blanking on it, that I've noticed.

You can do live pause but I'm not sure if you can do live rewind. I miss that functionality - I usually record the shows I really want to watch and then view them a bit later so I can do that with the recording (and skip the ads).

You can do live rewind, it's one of the reasons I bought this unit.

Yeah - the 840 definitely does live rewind...I use it quite a bit too and for similar child related reasons as Muppet...

I don't want no sugar in it - thank you very much

Likewise, no black screens have been noticed in the Dastardly Household with the 840....

That's awesome. The live rewind, not the interrupting children ;) That appears to be a common issue.

A few things not in the DMR-HWT260GN user manual.

1. The chapter mark button is missing from the remote but you can still make a chapter mark with a Harmony remote. It is also possible to add chapter marks automatically or every 5 minutes, instructions below.

2. The Timeslip button is also missing, a Harmony remote will do it.

3. This modal does Australia and New Zealand therefore it is possible to record programs when New Zealand is selected then switch to Australia to watch the recordings without the NZ Freeview restrictions.

This requires a return to Shipping condition witch deletes everything except the recordings on the HDD, not very convenient but it is possible to save the settings and Timer recordings to a  USB Flash drive.

Procedure to Backup Settings and add chapter marks :

Prepare a USB flash drive by creating a directory/folder with name EEPBAKUP on the USB. I used 2 new empty  4 GB USB.

Turn on recorder with no USB in back port and not recording,

With live TV picture on. Press and hold buttons 5, 9 and Red on the remote control simultaneously  for about 5 sec., then "70 RET" is displayed on recorder  display window, now press right nav button twice to display "82 TSR" press OK the image below will now be displayed on the TV screen.

[ CAUTION be very careful when doing this if OK is pressed when "81 AIG" is displayed the HDD is reformatted and all recordings are lost, there is no warning ]

Time is accumulated time of Power ON               Count is number of times of Power ON/OFF

 Insert USB memory for writing.

Using remote move the curser to Backup Data to USB

  Press OK

After "Try then OK" is displayed, the data has been exported to USB

Note: If there is something wrong with the USB "NG No USB" will be displayed. If the backup file already exists in the USB, the data is overwritten and "OK" is displayed

Remove the USB from the unit

Turn the unit OFF to finish.

Adding the auto and 5min chaptering to New Zealand from Australia

 Return recorder to shipping condition

  Select Australia then NSW

When it starts auto tuning press return as it won't find any channels, it is now possible to watch the

recordings on the HDD and use the 60sec skip and timeslip.

The default setting for chapter creation is auto so no need to change any settings.

Exit recordings and backup settings to USB. Turn off unit.

Turn on unit and go to settings >> HDD/USB HDD >> Settings for Recording >> Chapter Creation,  change to 5min.

Exit settings and backup settings to 2nd USB. Turn unit off.

Turn ON, then to Shipping condition, return to New Zealand.

After it has tuned the channels select  Restore Data from USB and press OK with the USB backup  from Australia

After turning OFF unit unplug or turn off at wall for a few seconds, when going through the settings on restart check the clock settings, the only problem I had was the clock turning off overnight for the  first night.

Now all recordings, including radio, will have a chapter mark every 5min this can save a bit of fast  forward and of course when chapter view is selected a row of thumbnail pictures is now displayed.

Automatic chapters only worked on channels 1, 2, and 3 it made a lot of chapters 17 in 33min but you can try it using the other USB.

After using for it for a couple of days with no problems I then made another backup to the USB  overwriting the Australia      backup now the USB has all the New Zealand settings and timer recording  info plus the Australia chapter creation setting, this makes it easy to swap between auto and 5 min  using 2 USB flash drives.

This method was used with no PC involvement other than the initial creation of the folder to minimize the risk of corrupting the EPROM.

When I looked in the EEPBAKUP folder it contained three exec named BACKUP6.DAT , BACKUP7.DAT and EEPBAK.DAT Opening these with a text editor revealed that BACKUP6.DAT had the timer recording names BACKUP7,DAT had no plain text, EEPBAK,DAT had DMR-HWT260 in plain text plus other stuff this would suggest that this is the settings exec.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to display the time permanently on the TV screen from the Panasonic DMR HWT260?   We have a Samsung 2016 UA50KU6000SXNZ Smart TV.

Curious to know if you ever heard back from Panasonic on this problem with the DMR-HWT260?

To be very honest I have not and I have been very lazy and not chased it up. You have prompted me to send something off this afternoon to see if there is any resolution on it. I don't notice it during the nights but admittedly I have ensconced myself in our new spare room working on stuff. The missus has said its still doing it so will fire off an email now.

Hi,
Ive bought one of these recorders but am having an issue with Viera link.I also have a Panasonic Bd 60 bluray player which when I turn on or off on the bluray remote it controls the recoder.I have Viera link turned off on both products but it still happens. Quite annoying as i turned on the bluray this afternoon and the recorder came on, pushed play to watch bluray and the hdd started playing also. Turn off bluray on remote and it turns off hdd. Hope that makes sense.

You need to change the remote control code on one of the devices,
see page 63 in the Panasonic DMR-HWT260 manual.
