Vu+ Duo has 15 sec / 1 min / 5 min skip forward and backward buttons and after mastering the use of these during the past 2 weeks or so, we simply don't see the adverts any more :D

I never use the FFWD or REW buttons because Skip is far superior, once you learn how to use it to best advantage. Yet another benefit of ditching MySky in favour of Vu+ Duo!

It's better than that. The size of the steps associated with the 1/3, 4/6 and 7/9 buttons is user-definable.

Well on my recommendation my sister brought one of these and sent me a quite good critique so I thought I would share it and see if those of you that have these have any comments.

Not perfect..
1. On the list of recorded programs, sometimes the previous program name is displayed rather than the recorded one eg News at 6 when I recorded country calendar
2. Occassionally when replaying a recording there is a moments freeze where it kinda jumps to large pixels and the sound disappears
3. For my taste, the buttons & the labels are a touch small, and because of their positioning I think they are likely to be worn off.. I need to use reading glasses to be able to see them where as the sky decoder I didn't

All good..
1. The menu is pretty intuitive, I've found it easy to navigate around
2. There are more options on how you can view recorded programs and the TV guide than I found on Sky, also the fast foward selection means there is a much faster forward than that available on sky, and you can jump by set amounts too which is handy
3. Considering it isn't HD the picture quality is pretty good
4. There is a good selection of programs including a station that runs news from a variety of european countries
5. the decoder is teensey, so I am looking forward to downsizing the cabinet it is in
6. It was super easy to set up, much easier than Sky

Another plus is new firmware will automatically be downloaded via satellite, the only Satellite PVR that will do this , so any issues that you mention can resolved in the background without any user input

I have a Dish S7090 PVR and had a few problems to start with, but with the updates most have been fixed, though some shows still fail to record, and every now and then get Te Reo show, just to broaden my horizons!!!

I bought the S7090 as a replacement for MySky.

I paid around $580 but they have come down further in price since then.

Some of the features are not as 'fast' as MySky" but other than that pretty much on a par with it.

Added bonus? I can also receive The following Aussie Freeview channels loud and clear.

I have also made the odd suggestion to the developers (re functions etc) at www.dishtv.co.nz who have taken my suggestions on board.

Can't say I'm an expert in this area of technology but as a standard user I think it's a great unit!

New update over the air started today.

The October 1.2a update is still live in the firmware link though.

I haven't d/l it yet, be interesting to see what had changed for what they call "Phase 2"

What started off with having some firmware issues and bugs has turned into a very solid PVR which they continue to support. I hope the new update makes some more positive changes, particularly with bits of the GUI , which could be more intuitive is many places.

Also ,is there a remote control alternative available yet ..dang the one that shipped in the box :)

EDIT: Sorry just noted that it is a software update...no idea of the size

Talked to the guys at DishTV, this update over the air doesn't make major changes to the operation of the unit but makes big changes to the backend of the software which makes future over the air updates quick and simple. So if you have a S7090 go ahead and do the update. If you have any trouble they said their Support team is ready for you to email or ring.

A friend pointed out to me today that if your DishTV receiver is still sitting on the original firmware, or even just an older one (i.e you haven't been updating via their website) then the OTA update makes some major changes to the firmware. Those of us who have been updating via the website won't notice big changes in functions but still need to do the OTA so that the backend of the firmware updates to the latest.

Great to be able to do updates by pressing a button instead of having to manually download to USB.

Personally I've had issues getting the OTA update to go...

Running 1.2a at the mo (which states on changelog it fixes OTA issues) ..box prompts me new d/l software is available (is on auto in settings) ..select yes please...loader screen boots...please wait....then no signal flashes for about 3-4 mins ..then reboots 1.2a

Have tried this a few times now with the same result....tried ringing them but the wait time for the 2 people in the queue started at 1 minute and just increased while I was hold to 20 minutes..lol

They've put the new 1.3 firmware online (odd though that it is dated before 1.2a) so may as well do it the old fashioned way ....

Is this a demand issue?? Be nice to know that OTA will actually work in the future...or am I alone ??

Dish TV rang back....good on them :)

Seems my issue is something new...by the time he'd rang I'd already updated to 1.3 anyway which is running well so far ...time will tell..

Strange how it detected the s/w was available but told me no signal when it switched to the loader..possibly a demand issue??? The tech guy didn't really say much apart from it was the first he'd heard of this problem...

Have it set to auto detect new OTA software (which it dutifully did this time), so if it has the same issue if/when a new s/w comes out I'll follow it up....

Only take 5 mins to d/l and install off usb anyway :)

Oh and they changed the date for 1.3 to 12th November ...my phone message must have made them look...

Have tried this a few times now with the same result.

I've since updated to 1.3 via USB update.

Also noticed new version 3 manual better .......but still doesn't cover all functions.

Still waiting (since release) for promised improved add skip function
and ability to transfer files to computer and ability To burn files to dvd .

Did you follow the instructions on the DishTV website www.dishtv.co.nz ? Looks like they have only just added the pdfs there (on the home page) with better instructions, so you had probably done your USB upgrade before they posted it.

Hi all, have one of these boxes installed in a boat running 12 volt, with diablo2 cam and I am having problems with the unscrambling of Sky channels.

Under 1.27 the box would regularly put up the "scrambled channel" message and play would stop/freeze for between 1 and 5 seconds then carry on for a random amount of time and repeat.

I have upgraded to 1.3 and the problem has become worse, the stop in descrambling is now 10 seconds or more in some cases and makes watching Sky untenable. While in the "scrambled signal" mode with the picture frozen I can access the menu for the box but any attempt to access the CI menu item puts up the message "CAM busy" and won't proceed.

The guys at Dishtv are saying this is a problem that has only been occurring for the last month or so and initially have said it is something Sky have changed. They have then said their programmers have said it is something Sky has changed that is causing a problem with the Diablo2 CAM however as above the problem has gotten worse when I installed the 1.3 update.

I don't have any issues with Freeview channels at all obviously.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Anyone out there using a different CAM successfully?

Had a look, seems a novel way to get an OTA update. I hope future OTA updates are more automatic and don't involve powering off and holding buttons on the unit down. Otherwise what is the point in the auto/timed update features ? (which notified me of the update but failed to d/l it).

Possibly 1.3 fixes this...time will tell.

Reading back it does appear that Dish TV have a habit of releasing products to market prematurely, and then getting free commissioning assistance from the buyer via fault feedback. Seems an unfortunate way to operate, from the customers point of view.

Also, where is freeview in all of this?
You'd think they'd take a closer interest given these products have their name on the front, saying the unit is approved to their standards...
