Actually, how do you reformat? Surely it's not restoring factory defaults? Manual is as useless as ever.

Go to menu

Media manager

media information

press red button to reformat drive

It will hold your booked programs but clear all recorded info off of the drive, so when you press library it will go straight to the booked list until you record something.

good luck....all this makes me reluctant to d/l the new firmware..

^Thanks for that.

I emailed DishTV with my problem and got a very quick response. They claim that v1.48 has file recovery built in and that I should re-load 1.48 and re-boot it 2-3 times. I did this, but, alas, no luck in getting the programs back in my library.

I'll wait for my second reply and then I'll probably re-format and hope for the best with 1.48.

Have installed the new firmware and everything recorded is still there so very happy at this stage.  Have set a big recording programme for tonight, concurrent and consecutive so will see how the subtitles go.  Will let you know later.

Well, I'm glad it worked fine for someone.

Went round in circles with DishTV and basically the only option for me is to re-format. I've been 'assured', however, that v1.48 is very stable and keeps an eye on any corruptions so as to get them early. We'll see.

I think I'll just stick to what I've got at the moment..... I haven't had any problems for a while and I have a lot of programs I want to keep... Good to be kept informed thanks Laughing

Just updated....

Worked fine and everything appears to be still there.....during the initialising process it did tell me it was resolving "the corrupted drive" which was a brief process....so possibly there were some underlying issues caused by previous firmware it has fixed and like you say will (hopefully) avoid in the future...only time will tell I suppose.....

be nice to come on in a few months to say something nice about it ...lol

Just an update.  Recorded 16 programmes last night, consecutive, concurrent and spread over Tv 1, 2, and 3.  All recorded straight into library and all had subtitles where they were on the live.  I did notice that the Media Center needs to be refreshed and OK'd to show them there, which is different from previously.  I do understand that somewhere down the road we may be able to export some recordings from the system, but don't hold me to that!! We are very happy

Really? Already? Curious; actually the fix on the boot sector recovery issue seems related to my problem.

Speaking of which - DishTV were so intrigued by my issue that they decided to send me a loaner unit while they look at my unit. I got the loaner yesterday (+ sent my unit to them) and I guess soon they will be able to tell me if they can cover my lost programs. They said they don't do this for everyone, but I was happy to accept their offer and partake in the consumer testing process.

hmmm....

So I updated to 1.4b and once again issues....

Recording is working okay, but I have an extreme case of pixellation/stutter going on (not enough to ruin viewing but blatantly obvious) , not just with playback on recorded programs but also with live TV ....oh and TV1 has suddenly decided to become a copy of the Maori channel, but the EPG and guide still show TV1 information....

Can't seem to blame it on anything but the new firmware...signal strength on all channels is at 85% and quality in the high 80's and 90's ...so not an alignment issue....

I either have a duff box or it's the firmware....so I'd be interested in how other people are going with it...everything was pretty sweet with 1.48 and only the firmware has changed in the last 2 days...so even Sherlock Holmes would reach a similar conclusion...

tbh...I'm pretty over this as it's been close to 9 months of issue followed by issue, a returned unit (due to hard-drive failure) and then 2 reformats to fix media not alive issues....

Going to ring Dish TV on Monday for a polite vent.....and seek some form of return on the unit, my consumer testing days are over. May switch to a DVB-T unit......any suggestions on something that may help lower my blood pressure :)

Im amazed at how many of you have put up with all the issues and not returned your box, the only issue is that there is nothing else in the market to replace this unit and the over all quality of the box is very good but still amazed that how a product could be released with so many issues, its not like they really had any competition. Im a dreambox geek and swear by them, have never had any issues with recording etc,but they are an expensive box so most dont want to pay the extra money ,then there was the vu plus this was much cheaper but still expensive and does the same job as a dreambox but now no longer available here.
I suggest that you hold on a little longer, perhaps another month or so if no joy return your toy, there is the other possibility  your box maybe faulty ,but then you did not have this issue before, perhaps go back one version. i must admit that the negative feed back seems to be dropping as the software improves ,well thats for some.

That's too bad about 1.4b, smelck. Not sure if I will bother with it, depending on what happens between my loaner and the unit they have at HQ. I've also had pixelation issues - I thought it was the TV, but maybe not now.

As for me, as far as I know (/was told) this is one of, if not the only, units that will work (or work well) in my region. So, if 1.48 stays stable I might sit on that for a while.

I have a unit in the main lounge and had upgraded to the v1.41 firmware and still using that firmware and have had no problems at all.  Seeing problems others have had with these other updates, I have bothered to update as my machine is running well
