question,
is the epg data on freeview dtt transmited in the data stream  the same as the dts eit epg data . ?
why i am asking is that the  ET WORKED  B4 the nz meheg5 epg uppdates were applied.
you will also know that there are virtually no problems with non meheg5 dtt and dts pvr's which use the eit epg.
my htpc works fine with eit epg , my coship satelite pvr also works fine with eit epg .
i challenge any one to prove that there is a meheg5 epg'd pvr without issues.

I Agree ... MHEG5 is  FLAWED   FULL STOP.

Even before you ADD PVR.  The code for this is RUBBISH. (May as well be running in DOS.  Remember those days)  You will notice with the satellite recievers those with MHEG5 take over 2 secs to change a channel. Those WITHOUTt the MHEG5 EPG, near instant.

On the HD service receivers with MHEG5 EPG, note how long it takes for the receiver to bring up a screen on pushing the EPG(MHEG5). button. Also within this program, to change a screen, is also dreadfully slow.

Maybe we should lobby for all the receivers to migrate to the European EPG standard MHP middleware.

So after reading through this thread I should stay away from the ET? Might just upgrade the Sat decoder I have to a PVR and avoid the HD receivers for now. :-)

I wouldn't say that.  It depends on your expectations.  I just wanted a cheap Freeview|HD receiver and didn't expect the PVR function.  It's not perfect, but it meets my needs.

I would say be carefull - Some people have demonstrated that where the ET doesnt work well (picture break ups box rebooting etc), other brands have worked perfectly. So - buyer beware. That said - there obviously users that seem happy with the unit.

Maybe the best bet would be to make sure that if you are going to buy an ET, get an assurance that you can take it home and try it - If it doesnt work out they will refund you.

If I was going to purchase a set top box it would have to have the PVR option, not too fussed if it comes with an HDD, have plent of USB external drives that I can use.

There are a couple of boxes I've been looking at, listed below.

The second one looks really good to me :-)

The first one is the one all over trademe.....very keen for somebodt to take the plunge (might have to be me...)

The second one is the one you need a sat dish for the EPG to work, otherwise I'd be interested.

I just saw this auction on trademe; http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=198008936

Maybe it has already been discussed, but anyway the auction doesn't mention the box supporting mheg-5 but the seller says;

Q: Does this support the 8 day epg from freeview ?

A: Hi Gordon, At present the answer is yes & no as our current EPG on the Tvix only displays program information for about a half day in advance, but it does display future program time slots without the program information. We are currently working on a firmware update to display the full week EPG. Also the PVR function works with the current EPG & you are also able to schedule recording of any FreeView channel in advance using the timer record options via date & time selection. Cheers David

Wonder how it is getting the EPG info?

/slightly off topic

Hi Guys,
I'm one of the 'lucky' ones - I've had my ET since early Oct working out on Waiheke Is, and other than having to reboot it prob once a week, I haven't really had any problems. I consider rebooting weekly to be acceptable - this is normally required when I'm unable to change channel or the mute icon stays onscreen despite not being muted. Like most, I've found the Quality and Signal indicators a mystery - Quality at full strength, Signal displayed at 10% odd?!

My question though is about the software, should I be updating the software at all?
I have not made any upgrades since receiving the box, and reading the posts, am reluctant to make any changes. Like most, I'm keen and waiting for that PVR functionality which is creating so much discussion. But otherwise, dont see any real reason to update software at this point.

I was just thought it was interesting they are extracting the data and displaying it in their own EPG, as there's no other DVB-T boxes or even PC PVR software that can do this yet (that I Know of)...

Heh...I wonder if the winning bidder realises the HDD is extra....hope it's not a proprietry one....

Seems kinda expensive for a single tuner receiver with no HDD or full EPG.......

Anyway, back to the ET.....
