Jaxson: Reading back it does appear that Dish TV have a habit of releasing products to market prematurely, and then getting free commissioning assistance from the buyer via fault feedback. Seems an unfortunate way to operate, from the customers point of view.

Also, where is freeview in all of this?
You'd think they'd take a closer interest given these products have their name on the front, saying the unit is approved to their standards...

That's a fair comment and observation.

I must admit it's been a bit of a rocky road with it as a PVR (for me), but since the last few firmware updates has been a pretty reliable machine...

I think if we are being honest though there aren't many T or S PVR boxes that are faultless.

Downloaded the latest firmware update then the HD locked up and was not available to use with out a reformat .... and delete all the recordings to date!!! Any ideas??? as I have 40% used....... Thanks

Agreed, but I don't think that should be accepted as the norm.

To be fair, most of the units have not been from big name brands. There just seems to be too many companies out to make a buck hocking off Chinese products badly adapted to the local NZ market. Updates and testing seem to be fairly ad hock without the quality control/testing procedures the big names would no doubt apply to this process.

I had big hopes for a freeview approved Satellite PVR as I have family in non HD/UHF reception areas. Unfortunately I still don't feel comfortable recommending this based on what I'm hearing from threads like this.

Satellite is not cheap, approx. $500 vs say $299 now for freeview HD Tivo. It's a big investment for many and I just don't think customers should be part of the early testing phase of a raw product. You'd just like to think they'd be a bit further progressed by the time it went to market....
And that's not even starting on the 'future add ons' being discussed that honestly may or may not ever eventuate.

It doesn't appear that Freeview certification guarantees much in the way of quality at all.

I suspect that all they do is a tick-list to ensure that all the required crippling has been done by the manufacturer. The process is probably something like "Ad skip removed - check, recordings encrypted - check, HD output restricted - check, network access removed - check, OK approve the unit" rather than actual testing of reliability and performance.

This box is stuffed !!!!! ..... updated now info banner for aussie channels dont work after update.
and I cant revert to older version ... yes I saved them ... It no longer sees the usb image.
Thinking of returning unit for a refund and buying a decent PVR not Certified (nobbled)

Anyone know if the Dragon CAM is still available and if so from where?

Would like to try one to see if the problem is the same as the Diablo CAM.

After mucking up my ultraplus f-9000 and file delete problem, I went out and bought one of these.

S7090 easy setup and very easy deleting unwanted channels
Ultraplus F-9000 easy to delete once finally worked how. Not as easy as s7090. Still havent sorted how to re order the channles

S7090 only now/next epg which is very annoying for me
F-9000 full 8 day epg on all channels

S7090 audio excellent on my tv
f-9000 okay but not as good as s7090 on same tv and same settings.

s7090 picture okay but not as good as the F-9000

s7090 series link f-9000 no series link.

So I prefer the Ultraplus now I have it working again. What would make the S7090 my favourite would be 8 day epg on Aussie channels
Also I find the red and orange lights too bright for me. Not sure what the orange light is for

Update.

sound is about the same. On the ultraplus I had to go into settings and change it after a reset. The S7090 you dont need to change.

The other thing I left out is there is no copy to usb option on S7090

Finally has anyone found a better remote than this horrible thing masquarading as a remote on the s7090

been playing with both today. Ultraplus locks up now when have external usb drive connected.

Connected usb drive to the S7090 and it plays all my divx files except no audio on the ones with mp3 audio but perfect with all with aac audio.

Has anyone played around with the media center. It has info in top right hand corner. this is quite large and annoying. How to disable it so you have clean screen

How did u get it to play your divx files, I can see my USB drive in the media manager, but I can't see or select the files therein nor play them. Spill the details please, cheers, gwf

Also, the on screen display can be switched off in: user settings/user preference/OSD timeout change to none

I have a 750gb seagate goflex drive with divx files on it. I just plugged it in, waited a moment and they were available. On menu and then connectivity at the bottom and selected usb drive. Only problem is how to get rid of the big info box top right corner

Cheers for that, works a treat shame about the pickie encoding.
The menu in the top right disappears after a few seconds on mine, can't explain why it doesn't on yours

I have just been through the latest version of the instruction manual, interesting that there is absolutely no mention of this functionality to access USB/HDD/network content. I am not one to go on about dish tv using us to road test their product, but it is a bit of a shame that good stuff like this has been missed.
