That's not true. Vu+ receivers will work anywhere in NZ so long as you have a Sky dish (or FreeView dish) installed:

I have been running a Vu+ for almost a year now, and it does everything you could realistically want. Prices on that site are in AU$, but they are a good company to deal with, and stand behind their product with warranty service and spare parts in stock.

Cost is a bit more than the Dish TV units, but you get what you pay for!

^Well, I admit I haven't looked into it (and I have no real interest in doing so as the unit is my mum's not mine and forking out for another one is not a viable option), but that's what she was told at the time. Whether it was sales-speak or just what was easily available on the West Coast, I don't know, I wasn't here.

And actually, the one you linked is not much more (less for the duo in fact) than this unit, so it's really not a case of getting what you paid for unless one feels that the S7090 is ridiculously over-priced.

I'm not up on the prices of the DishTV stuff, so just assumed they would be cheaper. Keep in mind that you would have to pay in Aussie $ plus the cost of freight to NZ, so I would be surprised if they didn't work out a bit dearer. If the Vu+ units are in fact cheaper than DishTV, well it's a no-brainer really, they are far superior with an excellent support forum to answer any questions.

Odd......

Appears to have come right today... I definitely wasn't dreaming it ...and apologies for what was a bit of a spontaneous vent....I just checked some of last nights recordings and 2 of them are just unwatchable with stutter/pixellation ...

Not sure what caused it as signal strength and quality were good.....and it seems I was alone. Still going to contact Dish tomorrow to report it and see what they say...

I just had something similar to you - all the channels were off, TV1 = Maori TV, Prime = Parliament, etc.

It went to a 'database is empty' (I think) message and then sorted itself out after a while.

Although I haven't had any problems at all, there is an upgrade 1.4c which may help some of the problems others have been describing. Will do something about it tomorrow.

Heh, they sure are pumping them out now. I'm still with the loaner unit, so I won't touch any of these new updates until I know what's happening with the original. By which time I may even know if they are safe ...

No I didn't, but I should have really. After the odd blip it has been okay(ish) this week...apart from one instance where it refused to initialise media (wouldn't read the drive). A quick reboot sorted this though.

The fact that they are bringing these updates out with some regularity says a lot about how stable they are though and that they must be getting a fair few calls...

The changelog for the latest one (4c) says it adds additional recovery mechanisms to correct hard-drive corruption. You'd like to think that the original firmware(s) wouldn't have caused this corruption in the first place ....I'm 100% sure I'm not doing anything operationally to cause these corruptions (i.e nothing is being unplugged at key times)

I'm a little unsure if I have a inherent issue with my box that can't be fixed, although judging by some of the similar issues others are having I really do think it is just buggy firmware....(this is my second unit)

As a unit, if it didn't have these ongoing issues , it would be a great box (it does everything I ask of it). I'm just in ongoing amazement that after close to 10 months we have had 10 updates the majority of these to fix issues (many caused by earlier iterations).....

Be nice if someone from Dish TV (who may well monitor these forums) could come on and explain just what is going on???

Oh well 4c here I come ....

Hi I've only put the 1.41 update on so far but I'm collecting all the update files for later. The only one I haven't got on my computer (since the 1.41) is the 1.48. There doesn't seem to be anywhere on the website to get earlier firmware updates, only the current ones. Could someone send me the 1.48 please. I've put my email address in their little update notification box so they will email me about new updates but it doesn't seem to work. The thing that gets to me the most is the fear of it not recording my favourite programs while I'm at work; I've had that 'playback has ended' several minutes into recording a few times. It really goes haywire if you fast forward into catch up while chasing haha. Nothing that a good reboot won't fix though. Thanks

The 14C from the website also helps with Hard drive issues eg "media not alive" it added a recovery feature which checks hard drive and recovers corrupt files

So far (touch wood) 1.4c has been the most stable firmware for me to date... 1 week down and "0" issues to report....

...hopefully this continues :)

Yes...I've had no issues with the last few firmwares (including the latest) impacting either my library or booked programme schedule...so it will all be there after the update......

Although please do not seek me out to vent if it does ...which it won't ... :)

Glad to hear 1.4c is stable so far smelck. A week without a hitch is a long time for this unit.

Still haven't heard back from dishTV about my original unit and I'm not prepared to update the loaner. Speaking of which do these updates back-fill? e.g. can you put 1.4c straight over 1.48? Normally you would, but with this you never know.

@Donna - did you get a copy of 1.48? I have it around here somewhere if you didn't.
