thebeezneez: Hi Guys,
I'm one of the 'lucky' ones - I've had my ET since early Oct working out on Waiheke Is, and other than having to reboot it prob once a week, I haven't really had any problems. I consider rebooting weekly to be acceptable - this is normally required when I'm unable to change channel or the mute icon stays onscreen despite not being muted. Like most, I've found the Quality and Signal indicators a mystery - Quality at full strength, Signal displayed at 10% odd?!

My question though is about the software, should I be updating the software at all?
I have not made any upgrades since receiving the box, and reading the posts, am reluctant to make any changes. Like most, I'm keen and waiting for that PVR functionality which is creating so much discussion. But otherwise, dont see any real reason to update software at this point.

Bugger! Just noticed that the time reports as 14:52 when it is in fact 19:38 (just when I thought I had one of the "good" units).
Power on and off fixes it - but for how ong.
Surely when a recording session is scheduled, the machine will have to be kept "running" so the time doesn't go out..?

Hi BeezNeez,
I have a similar experience to you. I have had little or no problems with the actual ET box, I am not really interested in PVR so I will not update for that.
As I have pointed out a couple of times on this forum, I tried to update the software once and failed. Now I am very happy I didn't update. I still feel that al lot of these problems come from the upgrade, and the original software is a lot more reliable.. So my advice is, if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it!

If your problem trying to update, was that your usb flash drive wasnt recognised, Then it seems by accident, they have admitted that the ET doesnt support 'some' USB drives too well. I think that was mentioned as one of the things the Chinese developers were working on in that email that Pete posted recently. The software upgrade works ok provided it will decide it can see your flash drive. I had to try a couple before it would work. Hmmm - you might end up with a catch 22 situation there. You would need to install the latest software (from your USB flash drive) in order for it to recognise your flash drive.Yell

Thanks for that Rizzo - will wait for proven PVR functionality before looking at updating. Cool

The new software DOES NOT fix this.  I am running the November software and I have the same issue.  In standby the clock can freeze on a time, and the only two ways of getting it back are either by powering ON the uinit so that it syncs up with the signal, or power cycling it.  This has been reported many times.

The box also has a problem with audio dropouts on Channel 6 and 7.  The audio disappears entirely for 2-30 seconds several times an hour.  The picture remains crystal clear.  This points to the box having some kind of issue with the encoding of the audio on these two channels only.  Other channels are fine.

Pete, can you please comment on this and pass it onto your engineers if this has not already been.

My experience is similar. My ET receiver was supplied with the November firmware, and the clock occasionally freezes when it's on standby - it happens two or three times per week.

Channel sticking seems to be more regular now.
Every 2 days?

Always in the morning after it has been on standby overnight.

Does not matter what channel I leave it on.

Only a full power off will fix.

My refund request emails have been ignored.

Time to make that call.

edit:

Not entirely happy but at least will get some $ back.

Refund less $40, I got at 275.

If you have returned goods because they are not "of acceptable quality" or "fit for purpose", then you are entitled to a full refund of the price that you paid, not a partial refund. It's worth reading through the Ministry of Consumer Affairs website on the Consumer Guarantees Act

While this is true "acceptable quality" and "fit for purpose" are 2 very subjective terms. I would suggest that the alternative is the Disputes Tribunal but that costs to register a case and will take time with no clear outcome. Sometimes it is better to take the bitter pill and live for another day

unless you all band together and lodge a complaint as one....   Suspect the dispute would be quickly settled if there are multiple parties involved...

That sounds like a plan.

But even if the tribunal hands down a ruling, there is not much they can do if the seller does not play ball.

Seen on fair go too many time

Best I can hope for is someone else learns from our mistake.
