Yes and no. If you ignore all the officially-prescribed stuff and just go your own way, you can find ways to bypass most of this rubbish. For example, the Hauppauge HDMI recorder has a 'Live TV' function built into it. Just start recording, go make your coffee, come back, start playback, jump past the ads. It works a lot like a digital version of my analogue DVR, which lets me do the same thing. The price is that you don't have single-click functionality, so have to be willing to take the trouble to navigate to different buttons and the like. For me, it is a price I'm happy to pay. Even laziness has it's limits.

My Panasonic had a major update a few months ago (which I mentioned in another thread) so it now has 8-day programming. I wonder if they are gearing it up for freeview plus.

The Freeview plus page mentions set top boxes that are supposed to be in retail about now. They haven't eventuated yet; however I found the kind of thing we might expect - Smartdroids - which you can buy online. These turn ordinary TVs into Smart TVs and don't cost more than $200.

WARNING: I do not think these are freeview plus devices, they are for Youtube and Google, I don't think they even do on-demand, but it gives you an idea of the kind of thing we might expect to see in shops soon.

You are correct! It was a little late to withdraw the product in the latest mailer. Official Announcements made soon.

Disrespective: http://test-mwhbbtv.fvpnz.co.nz/main.html If I load this up in the FireTV Firefox plugin I can see a good amount of info from TV3Now. Show lists, Genres, etc. No guide data is available or playback enabled for my device though.

http://tvnzhbbtv.fvpnz.co.nz/main.html Shows an OnDemand login screen but does nothing when I try and login.

For http://test-mwhbbtv.fvpnz.co.nz/main.html I just get a spinning Loading... displayed.

Does TV3Now still load for you?

I have a 2014 vintage lg smart TV. The same model in Australia does freeview plus. What's the chance it will work with the New Zealand freeview plus? Asked on the lg nz Facebook page and got no response.

I know in Australia that some of the TV manufacturers pushed a software update to their TV's and PVR's to enable Freeview Plus (Panasonic definitely did it) so hopefully the same will be true here. I have a very new PVR that should be compatible but so far no word on what is likely to happen with it. Still, I probably shouldn't hold my breath since the Netflix app hasn't appeared on it yet either, lol.

I also have 2014 LG tv that works on the Australian Freeview plus , if you change it to Ausie broadcast it gives you the option to turn on Hbb tv . I have also asked LG support if they will update for NZ but have not had a response .
