Might have to get one on demo to review.
I'll just have to bite the courier fee for the greater good :)

Should be getting the Strong 5440 today to play with.
Will report back.
With an rrp of $500 I would go with the vantage unless this one comes with working 8 day epg pvr.

Right.  I've had it with this ET box.

I've just emailed Pete and said that unless he can provide a SW update that addresses the wandering clock, the freezes and the audio dropouts, I will be seeking a full refund of the $ which I have paid him.

Anyone else want to join me?

I see that "Cordlessman" of Waitakare is still advertising ET boxes with the line

PVR feature avail soon off our website...

Its been about 5 months since the last software release and (excluding the PVR) there are still basic things to be fixed. Things are really progressing at glacial speed for ET users.

At least the suppliers of the other boxes that were ridiculed so much on this forum seem to be having regular releases - presumably they are resolving issues and getting better.

Good on you.  i encourage you all with problems to do it.  you should not tolerate substandard products as there are decent ones out there.

I'm interested in heaing how you get on, keep us posted.  Unfortunately, I bought my unit off a reseller who doesn't want to know anymore (he says it's "been too long" to expect a refund).

I tried that...

"I believe the ET works fine, but is fussier about signal quality than some receivers. It's not faulty, so I don't believe you'd have grounds under the CGA, and you've had it far too long to expect a full refund when the new price is around $100 less than it was originally."

Oh well, live and learn...

This is covered under the CGA.  The product is not fit tor the purpose whichit is intended for and it is certainly not free from defects.

So how does one start down official channels, when there is no word back from emails sent to the reseller asking for the refund procedure to start?

Who was the re-seller?

Take the pillock to the Disputes Tribunal - or at least begin with the threat of doing so. See http://www.justice.govt.nz/disputes/home.asp

I just spoke to him this evening.  He's still blaming the Chinese manufacturers and reckons that there is an engineer coming down at the end of the month.

I pointed out the faults and asked for a refund, but he won't give one as "the unit is second hand".  He said wait for the PVR update at the end of the month, or take the $200.

I've had enough.

The Disputes Tribunal will be getting the paperwork from me next week.  If I can get other parties interested in this case, then so be it.
