I'm going on a 5 week holiday this weekend so will be AFK.

Hopefully it will work fine for the Olympics - but just remember the EPG data has nothing to do with me, and setting up to record something based on the EPG it may not reocrd what you want if TVNZ decide to cover something different from what the EPG says.

I currently use xmltvnz from Reven to grab the epg I need for my PVR250 and TCL cable. But I recently installed a DVB-T card (Hauppauge HVR900H) and decided it would be good to get epg for that also.

Looked at the solution in this thread but out of interest tried what I think is a simpler procedure (for gbpvr).

1. use a program called url2file which takes as a parameter a url (in this case the url of the .gz file for the epg) which just accesses the web site and writes the file to the local hard drive
2. gzip to extract the file

So something like this

url2file http://epg.pvr.geek.nz/epg/listings-freeview.xml.gz
gzip -d listings-freeview.xml.gz
rem this creates a file called listings which I guess is the uncompressed name in the archive

Put the two lines in a bat file, arrange for the Task Scheduler to run this bat file each day and configure gbpvr to use the output xml file as its source for the epg (as described in this thread)  and do the update daily.

Seems to work fine for me.

Hi,

Thanks again for your EPG.  It works very reliably for me.  Any chance of adding support for Prime TV.  Now that Mediaportal RC2 is released, the popular HVR 2200 can pick up analog channels (Prime).  I'm not keen on changing EPG grabbers because yours is so easy to set up.

Hi,

First off, thanks for the tutorial, it looks like exactly what I'm looking for. I'm using dvbviewer, and following the tutorial, I seem to have problems at this point, trying to pair the channels.

Can anyone see any glaring problems? The XML file is in \epg\ and it seems to load fine in firefox, its about 700kb etc.

Im getting the same thing as you when I run the grabber this is the log

Running: C:\Media Center Programs\DVBViewer\freeviewNZ-EPG-GBPVR\freeviewNZ-EPG-GBPVR.exe -dvbviewer - C:\Media Center Programs\DVBViewer\epg\epgdata.xml
Finished: C:\Media Center Programs\DVBViewer\freeviewNZ-EPG-GBPVR\freeviewNZ-EPG-GBPVR.exe -dvbviewer - C:\Media Center Programs\DVBViewer\epg\epgdata.xml
Succes!

Next I try to pair the channels and it starts DVBViewer and I get a msg EPGPlus is all ready running and a get this

CHANNEL PAIRING LOG
Processing: Pairings.xml
Pairings.xml not found.
This is not an Error: Going to create it!
Processing: epgdata.xml
Error on Analyzing files
Error: Reading File
Succes!
DVBViewer closed succesfully

The epgdata file is 0kb with nothing in it.

Hey there,
Not sure if this has been asked, but can you add support for the other XML files on http://epg.pvr.geek.nz/epg/?

Cheers.

I'd imagine that if someone were to modify tv_grab_nz-py to run on Windows (which should be fairly straight forward) that would be a good solution.

Ok back from holiday...

lchiu7

... gzip is not a default windows program so not much of a solution, as your suggestions requires downloaded 2 programs to do exactly what my 1 program does.

karter

you need to run my program to download the xml file before you can map the channels

kiwijunglist I am not resposible for the EPG files. basically you would need to set it up to download the freeview xml file (my program does this bit) then get something else to download the sky version (which should have prime included)... having said that might be adding sky support very soon (someone has done the code just waiting on them sending it to me).

Hotdognz

and

DrMambothe next time you start it i think it works (I remember having that "problem")

Based on this log file seems the epgdata.xml has not been downloaded yet. make sure you run my program once so it downloads the epgdata.xml file before you try to do the mapping.

eXDee

yes this could happen soon but will require you to run the program for each file (pass a command line parameter to select the xml file you want.) so stay tuned.

hads  what feature/functions are you wanting form that script? might be able to add them to my program.

hope thats everything covered.

I don't use Windows so don't use your script. I was merely pointing out that tv_grab_nz-py is an XMLTV compliant grabber that already exists and being written in Python I imagine it would be easy to get going on Windows.

Version 1.7.0.0 is out

It just adds the abilty to have all channels of epg downloaded (sky+freeview) in one download. note this is a 1.2MB download per day instead of the 130kb for freeview only - so to save you money only use the all channels if you need it.

How to use it: Simply add the parameter -all to the end of the command you have now.
open up the .bat file you use and add -all to the end. and then map all the channels as before.

freeviewNZ-EPG-GBPVR.exe -mediaportalTVServer -all

download at: http://mentalindustries.orconhosting.net.nz/epg

I have released version 1.7.0.1.

Had brain wave laying in bed of how I should have detected the -all argument, the code is much cleaner now.

Just download latest version from http://mentalindustries.orconhosting.net.nz/epg and replace the .exe.
