The cross media breakfast with Paul Henry sounds like an interesting concept. The problem is that I don't have time to watch TV in the mornings, and to be honest I much prefer Marcus Lush.

Mediaworks is the biggest media outlet in New Zealand.  Remember that it's not just TV3 but they have a tonne of National & Local Stations (RadioLIVE, The Edge, The Rock, etc).  Mediaworks reach is 3.8m at the moment.  TVNZ & NZME can't compete because they aren't cross platform (at least not to the extent Mediaworks is – NZME has papers & radio).
Personally I much prefer 3 News over One, their political team – including the one and only Patrick Gower – is much better.

I agree that Grand Designs is the only reality program I will even bother with in that line up. As for the overseas offerings, I'm wondering whether to invest any time in the "US military conspiracy thriller Odyssey, last time I did was for the series Crisis which played at primetime on a Tuesday for a couple of weeks and was just starting to get interesting, then was moved to midnight on a Thursday. Series link missed the change and and so did I.
With the likes of Arrow, Agents of SHIELD, Gotham, The Flash and Dr Who to contend with in the same time slots and Channel 016 (Zone?) starting on Sky, Geek viewing is pretty well covered for our household. TV3 is a swing and a miss for me.
As for the news, both the main channel's news are produced as infotainment, so that's how I treat them.

Only one there that interests me is Gallipoli.
I have no interest whatsoever in the reality ones

We are threatened with "the local reality juggernauts".
I think I'll pass on these.

Also love 7 Days & Jono and Ben at Ten.

Also worth pointing that there's a pretty large conflict of interest in that NZ Herald article considering NZME are direct competitors with Mediaworks.

Disagree. TV2 is doing a great job of bringing us shows like Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, Agents of Shield and The Walking Dead extremely close to after they air in the US. A big pat on the back for them. Not so much for TV3.

Quite risky given audiences' tendency to spontaneously abandon reality shows at some point. Moreso since the majority of these reality shows have already had their US and AU variants air in this country, and the NZ version is typically a watered-down regurgitation.

TV3 airs The Blacklist mere hours after it's broadcast in the US. They used to do the same for a number of shows on Four as well.

I call 3News 3 Labor News as they seem right up there with Labor and the Greens.

People still watch broadcast TV? I'd almost forgotten it existed.
