I've been trying to get DVB-T working on Vista and have got to a point where I can either have it running in software (with out-of-sync audio and dropped frames) or with hardware acceleration using an ATI HD 200 XT (AGP) in which case the majority of channels appear as a solid green with brief coloured glimpses of movement. Does any one know how this is fixed?

My specs:
Athlon 64 X2 3800+
Sapphire HD2600 XT
Windows Vista Home Premium
Hauppauge HVR3000
Asus A8V-MX motherboard.

I get the same results with PowerDVD 7 and 8, and in DVBviewer or VMC (with the 182 media center update build). The greeness is on Maori and several other channels, but TV3 is fine (and in fact runs very nicely under hardware acceleration). I've tried several rebuilds with various AGP hotfix drivers and various amounts of OS patches.

I have a screen-grab of the block green corruption, but Geekzone doesn't seem to let you upload them, and I don't have anywhere else to host them at the moment.

Help would be appreciated.

Thanks Nirodha. I notice you're running a 2600 XT too (and not a 200 as I mistyped in my original post!). Is it AGP or PCIe? I originally had trouble getting drivers to install (for instance if I just took the latest drivers from the ATI site) which I now realise was due to my card being AGP. The installation would run, but Vista would just ignore the drivers and class the card as a Standard VGA device. I had to force it to use the drivers by manual selection to get it to display properly. If I install the specific AGP hotfix drivers from Sapphire on the other hand, the card is recognised fine and everything works automatically.

In the meantime I'm downloading the Dell drivers you linked to and will give them a bash when I get home tonight.

Update your ATI drivers to 8.6 the new release. =) I have and haven't seen that greenscreen at all.
I have Vista AMD 5600 and HD2600xt pcie + hvr3000. How did your get your compture to fource hardware use as I think I'm doing it with the cpu(s)?

Sadly though I AM running the 8.6 drivers:

...is what I downloaded from http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/support/drivers.php and what was being used when I took the green screengrab above.

Is it perhaps something to do with it being an AGP card? Are you using PCIe or AGP hellonearthisman?

I recall seeing a green like that when I was working in overlaymode, have you tried the different screen redering settings on my agp xp box (totally different hardware). GbPvr has these settings under playback in the config program

In DVBviewer if I select Overlay I get no hardware acceleration (CPU goes to ~100%) but I also get no green blockiness as shown above. I just get out of sync audio and huge frame rate drops. :(

It's only when I select the EVR setting that I get Hulk-O-Vision, but the CPU usage drops considerably and TV3 (at least) works fine.

I've also had a look at those drivers from the other post (the Dell ones) and the installer says:

Video: AMD Radeon HD 2600 XT (256MB PCI-Express x 16 (Dual DVI)

...which I'm betting won't be picked up automatically by my AGP card. I might try and manually select these drivers and see if it makes any difference though.

This is a well known problem and has been covered extensively on Geekzone before.
I got the AGP version of the card to work by using the patch from http://exdeus.home.comcast.net/~exdeus/ati-hd2x00/
download and run the VBS script. Note it will ask for your graphics card and say "is this the one" when it lists the first card it finds in the windows registry.

I suggets you go into "Control panel" "System" "Hardware Devices" and when it launches click on "View" and then "Show Hidden Devices"

This will list installed but unused drivers, especially graphics card drivers. You can then remove old graphics cards lurking in the system before you run the VBS script.

I usually repeat running the script and say "no" when it prompts "is this the card" then accept the next card it prompts for until I see it say "no more cards are present" just to be sure that the registry tweaks are applied to the correct card.

Search the geekzone forum and you will find a ton of threads on the AGP prroblem with the 2400 and 2600 cards. These problems only affect the AGP version, the PCIe ones run just fine, hence your confusion from seeing others working OK.

Others have it working under Vista as I do

Thanks SMBUNN, I'll give that a try tomorrow (tonight is my anniversary - if I spend it tinkering with MediaCentre I don't think I'll make it to the next one!). I tried the Dell drivers previously mentioned and they kind of worked. I had to manually choose then as I guessed, but they did get rid of the green blockies. And the hardware acceleration too. :(

One small thing... can one change the wee flag that that appears near your name on the left? I notice I have a yank flag (as I'm coming through my work's US firewall) but as an ex-pat Scot now living in NZ, it's bugging me. :)
