Yes I still watch TV One's news and I could care less what people think of that but I do think tvnz are a bunch of cocks dropping Wendy Petrie out I enjoy both of there presenting styles

Petrie has been on NZ TV news and weather for a lot longer than 14 years. She was also on TV3 in the 1990s.

I never understood why NEWS presenters stay at the job forever. They got old, people got tired of them. TV bosses should sing new people every year or so. it's not super-duper-exclusive job, which makes you celebrity, well not in my opinion.

Some youtubers are better presenters without professional training and without years of experience.

But, diversity............

What possible defence can TVNZ have for 100% of the presenter being white middle-aged (boomer) male?

I think the reduction of 2 anchors to 1 is the problem here...tvnz tried it once before, people don't like it.  It needs the ability to swap between two presenters.  It adds a bit to it, rather than just the solo voice (which is what they have in the weekends with Melissa Stokes)

TV3 do 1 for Newshub late.

The make up for by by dropping all the cameramen and have robots doing it. Kid you not, they sit in control and drive them around the floor or using defined set of sequences, even slow tracks across the desk to mix it up

I took the bracket to finish in 1964. I’m aware these things are as rigid as jelly though :-)

Anyone remember who did it before Simon and Wendy? Was it Peter Williams? Pretty sure Hillary did it on and off for a while at one point as well no? or was that on 3news? 1news denied it publicly but it kinda makes me think they've been trialing new presenters the past couple of weeks. Got a surprise the other night seeing John Campbell co-presenting.

I'd guess that they've done the market research and calculated the likely net benefit makes this the best option to achieve cost savings.

If many or most of their current viewers won't change from TV1 news then one presenter might generate a net benefit to them. I haven't seen any 2020 viewer stats but TV1 news was dominating and increasing market share in 2019 with lead in programming of The Chase so this may be a good time to do this.

I guess that it is like white bread.

Technically, the US baby boom end is 1964 but NZ's baby boom finished five-years later: https://teara.govt.nz/en/photograph/28730/baby-boom-generation-about-1969

I think that the problem with using either of these dates is that the generational shift in values occurred years earlier and that is more relevant when defining the boomer cohort.

I guess it's the term/insult Boomer I have a problem with.  What was Winnie's slap back the other day..."Woke pixie dust".  Very helpful.
