So I've abandoned Crashplan after all this. I deselected enough data so my archive size was under the 5TB limit in order to migrate over but for some reason it dropped to 2TB total during the maintenance. At that point of having to re-upload 8TB rather than just 5TB coupled with their vague fair use policy I decided it just wasn't worth the hassle. So I'm back to local backup only until something suitable to my needs comes along again.

So basically as bad as the old consumer one I am still on till august is then. Fiber before then so sticking with crash plan till I get that then will look at other options since I will be able to back up and keep browsing the internet which I basically cant at the moment unless I throttle it to crazy low amounts.

I'm quite happy with my system:

Every six months I back up to AWS Glacier. Takes a bit of time to zip files together and upload, but not too bad. I upload medium res jpeg and 720p video - most of my files is home photos and videos.
Everything not yet in Glacier is sync'd to AWS S3 nightly. I don't use the CloudBerry fancy back to S3, I trust S3 more to do versioning and such. Once it's in Glacier I delete it from here.
Everything is kept on two external hard drives, one near site, one well offsite. I use incremental backups to both, plus I sync my most important stuff as well, so it's on the drives in two formats.

If I was starting again I'd possibly use Macrium reflect to back everything up incrementally, then copy its archive to S3 / hard disk. I just trust Macrium more than CloudBerry, for no good reason.

You go to the welcome screen (leftmost tab), bottom right you find your storage account, click the three lines, choose update storage usage (or similar).

I've stayed with crashplan and moved on to the small business version. The docker image for the new version is working well, and I can backup my NAS without difficulty plus I had the free year. I think I'm happy to pay a decent price per year for the security of mind that I have an offsite backup with version control that I can run; I could do backblaze from another machine via mapped drives but its not as compact as docker on the nas.

I'm still CP business as well. I would have move to backblaze personal, but they don't run on a server os...so it limited my options.

What's the current consensus for best crashplan replacement. Mine expires tomorrow. I have the offer from crashplan for cut price carbonite, half price crashplan for business or could move to a new provider I guess - I currently only have about 185GB backed up so re-uploading shouldn't be too bad provided they have decent upload bandwidth. I currently only backup from my home server which runs ubuntu so something that supports backups from linux would be my preference.

Don't forget that if you cancel Crashplan and reupload to another provider, you'll be losing all your backup history and ability to restore deleted files that were previously backed up. I switched to the business version deal on offer and it has been seamless.

If you don't mind a like bit of scripting then check out restic. Works with many different storage backends, including B2. There are some script wrappers which simplify things. Very simple, efficient, well thought out backup system.

Well, after use Cloudberry with Backblaze B2 for some months now...

The Cloudberry software is ok. I actually purchased a Hyper-V server license and a SQL Server license.

Backblaze B2 seems to be slow. Seriously, I would backup one of the Geekzone VM in under 15 minutes to my home server but to B2 it can take hours. Also Cloudberry backups look a lot bigger than Altaro VM backups.

For some reason or another the SQL Server instance "lost" its connection to B2, complaining about certificate error. No other instance complained of such error. It came ok after a few hours but it started doing all full backups again. No amount of repository sync would make it "adopt" previous backup information. At the end I just created a new repository and forced a full backup.

It doesn't inspired lots of confidence.
