If it is locally served that would be really good and some really interesting things might come out of that. On a personal level I would not put anything up which I needed guaranteed access to (for reasons others have stated very well) but it might be useful for sharing one or two things now and then.

If it will be funded by users required to sign up to a service that automagically replaces all web advertising with advertising contracted by Mega - I'm definitely not interested. I can see huge problems with that.

That is a lot of data and storage to pay for. If they have a sustainable and ethical way of funding it then it might last and it will be a really good thing. How will it be funded?

Funded by Investors, and probably I'm guessing most of it is funded out of Dotcom's pocket? It just said on the website "We have raised sufficient funds for the launch, but investors are......"

Bad choice of words on my part. I'll rephrase that. If they have a sustainable and ethical way of generating revenue then it might last and it will be a really good thing. How will it generate revenue?

If the rumours of an app that hijacks browsers and replace advertising from other sites with their own ads then there will be a lot of publishers pissed off with this kind of thing. Not even getting to the high security risk for anyone installing such apps in their computers.

I visited the website this morning. The main text is WE PROMISE, WE DELIVER. BIGGER. BETTER. FASTER. STRONGER. SAFER. Below that is a button that says on January 19th this button will change the world.

The service does not launch until January 20th NZ timezone so it was a wasted visit for me. Not a great start. That will annoy a few Kiwis.

To be fair, I've always known in the back of my head that the launch for NZ time-zone has been on Sunday the 20th.

However, considering the domain is .co.nz, it seems a little odd that the launch date that has been set isn't in a New Zealand time-zone date. Then again, you've got to kowtow to most Americans who most likely can't be bothered figuring out appropriate time-zone conversions. ;)

I agree about the U.S date and the .co.nz expectations. Having said that, javascript timezone conversion in the browser and or displaying the timezone for the launch would have worked perfectly well for everyone.

gehenna: I'll give it a go. I wonder if any of the servers are located in NZ - local cloud storage would be amazing.

The host is NZ owned (saw that in some blurb recently) and also some of the servers are in NZ. I'm lucky enough to be going to the launch party at Dotcom mansion tomorrow night, so I guess more details will be annouced then.
