HA HA, I better pack some spare undies then! Rest assured, my trusty little camera will be snappy furiously if something exciting happens but in front of the world's media, I doubt we will be so lucky.

None except I operate an LPFM station in New Plymouth. I contacted Kim Dotcom about running some radio adds for him and got invited to the Mega launch along with my student journalist son. I couldn't believe my luck but have had several communcations with him since.

A few of you have mentioned a desire for "in country" cloud storage. I just wanted to mention that theCloud are launching HomeDrive at the end of the month. This is fully encrypted and exclusively New Zealand based. Also if you are on theCloud UFB or Broadband then there are no data-caps so no barriers.

I would be interested in people's thoughts regarding storage quotas and pricing as we are working through the final stages of pricing options now.

Local might be good for speed, not for caps. I just got my first over notice of the month:

You still are using capped broadband? Really? Been on unilimited Broadband for over a year, no more expensive than a 60GB plan. If you don't trust an outfit like Compass (from whom I have received easily the best phone support from an ISP in the last decade) then Orcon has a similarly priced deal now.

I hate parties but I would really love any chance to talk tech with Kim. Hopefully there aren't any sad kiwi celebs or politicians there.

Can this unlimited broadband supports 100Mbps download and 10Mbps upload?

Well, it's 8am on Sunday morning and it seems the service is live.
The interface looks slick, but I've been trying to upload a 130 MB file for 20 mins and no sign of movement.
I haven't been prompted to register or pay yet.

Already an established force in the web hosting sector, Hosting.co.uk sees this arrangement as a golden opportunity to add another layer of value to its already superior service.

The developers behind MEGA analyzed the weaknesses among the current leaders in cloud storage. The file system was perhaps the most glaring shortcoming in many cloud storage technologies. In general, users must create and maintain files within the system. Sharing and collaboration is possible, but there needless hurdles to be overcome. In many cases, once-eager users drop out of the cloud, as they discover not everything is as simple as advertised. MEGA, on the other hand, embraces sharing as one of the essential principles of its service. Cross-account folder sharing is as simple as a mouse click. Even individual users can expect an improved experience -- MEGA can function seamlessly as a drive letter or file system mount.

Data security is a perennial concern for devotees of the cloud. Perceived vulnerability has likewise been an argument against embracing cloud storage wholeheartedly. Traditionally, server-side 128-bit encryption has been the sole defense against hacking and exploitation. MEGA features a browser-based encryption tool to which only users have access. This is a noteworthy step up from the security status quo. It's worth noting also that more user control nearly always equates to a better user experience.

MEGA does not require users to download any proprietary software. Instead, users can access their stored data from any system, anywhere, at any time. Data transfer is managed entirely on the server side. A "resume" function allows users to pause and restart transfers as necessary. Thanks to its substantial network of data centers, syncing of small or medium files is all but instantaneous.

Maybe a bit overloaded at 8.30 nz time on vodafone dsl.
