@neb
mmmm, maybe? We don't think a CoC woulda helped us here, This was more..... them being ~professionals~ and giving the impression of "go away and stop wasting our cycles". Our setup wouldn't've worked on those machines anyway, we need root.
ThatPrettyFreya: Damn, really? Any point calling universities in Auckland or anything?
I think a better bet would be recyclers like Hangarua on Trademe, a.k.a. this place. They're pretty nice guys and sometimes turn up the most interesting stuff, they may be able to keep an eye out for anything Sparc'y that turns up.
might give them a ring, yeah
Just had another look, looks like they list under two names, mostly computer stuff (x86) under "abilities" and everything else under Hangarua. The latter has pretty much everything at $39 + shipping while the former is more sellable stuff at standard TM prices.

Oof, response was basically the same as everywhere else, absolutely confused. *sigh*
Try messaging the seller Hangarua on TM or one of the direct email addresses on the site responsible for e-cycling, you probably got the reception folks who are there mostly to direct you to the right recycling bin and organise someone to help carry stuff.

Wilco
ThatPrettyFreya: Do you have a link to the other store? We found abilities, but not the other one, and wow that abilities one just looks like a laptop explosion at the most middle-of-the-road office ever devised
Here you go. He lists a huge amount of stuff so you probably don't want to plough through it all but maybe contact him via one of the listings.
Alternatively, does anyone know which, if any, of the folks on the Abilities contact us page it is? There's direct email addresses and numbers on there, but not sure who the right person is.
Nah, you should get JesusOS working on Sparc :-). It's still being actively maintained.
ZealOS strives to be simple, documented, and require as little of a knowledge gap as possible. One person should be able to comprehend the entire system in at least a semi-detailed way within a few days of study.
Would a Sparc Ultra 5 be of any use to you? If so, send me a dm & I'll get something sorted to get it to you. (It's in my cupboard, probably running a 10yo version of debian - I'll turn it on and check it runs if it's of use to you)
